Hi everyone,

So I was looking up a Mogami Class Cruiser and I see a compliment of 850 sailors. What are the different personnel departments on a Japanese Cruiser and what are the breakdowns? Can anyone point me to some reference material on this?

Thanx in advance,

DW

Hey tolsdorff,

I was able to read your post before you deleted it and I wanted to thank you for your book recommendation. The page you shared was really my first glimpse into crew life aboard a Japanese Cruiser in WWII.

I'm ordering a book! [:)]

Did the Japanese model their departments and crew similar to the early British Navy?

How did they maintain day/night shifts for lookout, gun crews, etc.? Does anyone have suggestions on where I can look to find this info for Japan's Navy?

Glad you liked it, it is a very good book! hope you can find it somewhere. [:)]

I ended up actually deleting this post? haha.

Despite being very impuslive at times, I do not remember deleting this one on purpose.
Unlike 20 years ago, I always make mistakes while typing. Therefor, I keep editing my posts, guess I deleted this one. There were a lot of open screens.

Kaigun. Strategy, Tactics and Technology in the Imperial Japanese Navy 1887-1941, by Evans and Peattie, although covering other subjects much more, goes into a little detail regarding these subjects.

Overall a very well researched book, I belief it has been recommended before on this forum.

the sample page has some info about your first enquiry.

Overall, information is kind of scarce on your subject. Hope you can find some other material on it!
