Hi all, playing a game as Axis and am in June 1940, having conquered France. vichy France did not form and all of france, North africa etc is now part of Germany. Is this a) a bug or b) the result of some game situation of which I am unaware. Relative newbie here. I do note that french morale seemed to be very poor (hence early conquest) but cannot go back in time to check.

According to the Strategy guide creating Vichy France should be a decision event for Germany (after conquering Paris and/or low enough NM). If they choose NO, French colonies should continue fighting.

But I've also heard a version that any axis unit within 3 hexes of Algiers will automatically transfer all French colonies to axis regardless of any other conditions, like whether it is defended by a unit or not, and bypass the whole Vichy DE.

The condition is actually that, if an Axis ground unit is within TWO Hexes of Algiers when France surrenders (e.g. in the town of Constantine), the Vichy event will not fire and the Axis will get all of French North Africa and most of the other French colonies.

There was a lengthy discussion about why this condition is not spelled out in the Manual (it should be!), but it is how the game is set up at present.

Hi Aussiematto,

Just curious what version of the game you are playing and if you started the game with v1.06.01? There was a bug introduced in v1.06.00 that would result in Vichy not forming under normal circumstances.

I think that is the answer. I am pretty sure it was started as v1.06.00. Since, in theory, it was an historical possibility my opponent and I are not unhappy. It makes for some interesting future issues for Germany, tho. I am madly garrisoning ports with italians :)

Had this just happen in a game. Took Paris and gutted the French Army and France surrendered without the event to form Vichy. Interesting if there is now a total surrender option rather than just negotiated surrender with Vichy.

An extra #VARIABLE_CONDITION was set to the Vichy France DECISION event in the v1.06 update which then exposed an issue with how the game engine handles decisions that was then in need of correction in the code.

If you have just one #VARIABLE_CONDITION it should be fine, otherwise the latest official update, v1.06.01 should resolve it all together either way.
