Qualls -> Aircraft icons (3/24/2020 8:44:38 AM)

Hey there, greetings everyone.
I'm looking for a mod that changes aircraft icons and couldn't find anything by browsing the forum. How can we survive without a proper Warthog or Strike Eagle picture? :) Thank you for help....

Lobster -> RE: Aircraft icons (3/24/2020 1:01:08 PM)

Not sure if anyone has made that. I guess if you want to portray a specific aircraft type you will have to rev up your own artistic talents or sweet talk one of the artists. [;)]

Thank you... well, those are good options indeed...

finding silhouttes is pretty easy... I'd even like to "work" them with my cut and paste skills [:'(] but I can't figure out how I could make it work ingame. Any advice about that?

This is very likely one where you have to put it in a folder in Graphics Override that has the exact same name as the scenario it belongs in. So if it's Mysceanrio.sec you would have to have a folder in Graphics Override that is named Myscenario and put your modified graphics there.

Yep... but it seems that all the unit icons are "stuffed" in a single .png image: I'm confused. How can you direct, for example, a M1 Abrams pic to a portion of that .png image?

The icons are arrayed in order and numbered. To see which number they have, start TOAW.

Open the scenario editor, and under the "edit" menu, choose "edit forces".

See the motorcycle squad listed? Right click on that, and then choose "edit equipment". It has silhouette #9. That is the ninth image in the .png file.

You can edit an image in the .png file, but then have to count to see which silhouette number it has. Then that number can be reference in equipment editing to display the silhouette you created.

Be sure to keep a backup copy of the original .png file so you can restore as needed.

Note the images in the .png file are numbered starting with zero, and are ordered in columns, not rows.

Cheers

Find your CounterUnits file and modify those icons [seen below], then follow the crabby ones instructions above.

Red highlighted Icons have specific properties, others can be used for anything.

Great informations indeed, I'm starting to learn something.... thank you very much. Still I can't tell if one could work the .png to add new units silhouttes.

An image of the .png follows. If you just want to add new silhouettes without altering any existing ones, edit an image that is just an oval -- those are, to my knowledge, not normally used. But you can figure out their number and use them when associating a silhouette with an equipment item like an A-10 Warthog.

The area allocated to each silhouette appears to be 50 pixels wide and 20 pixels high. So the silhouette has to stay within those borders.

Cheers

This one allows you to add new ones. The one sPzAbt653 displayed can only be edited. You can't add anything. But still, you can make the icons show anything your artistic talent allows.

The attached file can be used in conjunction with the counter unit icons shown above. Copied straight from the TOAW manual, it shows the counter unit icons along with their attributes. I find it a handier than thumbing thru the manual every time I need the information.

As usual, delete the “txt” portion of the file name to revert back to the pdf file.

Regards

It would be cool to have special property for each of them [8|]
