In prior SC entries you could choose to play as a single country and set the other's for the AI. It seems you can't with The Great War and that is a bit of a disappointment.

by "The Great War", do you mean Commander: The Great War? in that game, I think you are forced to play as everyone unfortunately. I haven't tried mods or anything for it though.

anyhoo, back to your question for this game, yes you can pick one country to play. when you pick your faction, start click on the flags of the countries you don't want to play as and they should be circled in blue to indicate they will be AI-controlled.

No, it doesn't give me the option, it's all or nothing. For instance, I can't play as just Austria-Hungary, I have to play as all Germany and Turkey (and Bulgaria), which is a bit too much. Such a shame.

No click on the flags and you can choose AI for Germany and Turkey.

You can play, click on the countries, and it gets a slight outline, meaning those countries will get AI control, minor of the AI controlled countries also gets controlled by the AI. You can even play as solo Italy (and hope AH don't give up territories:)

On lover difficulties it is even quite fun, you don't need the massive penalties for you side to play a balanced game, since your AI partners will fail by themselves and also not work with you seamlessly, so it will like the real war, where the various nations had issues with each others on one side too.

Hi Dongaron1,

As the others have stated, the process of playing a single country for this release is the exact same as it is for the previous Strategic Command releases that allow this option. Essentially choose your side, and then left click on the flags of the countries on your side that you would like the AI to play for you.

Of course you need to be playing in Single Player mode for this to work.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

I'm obviously missing something because when I reach the screen for choosing The Entante or Central powers I can only choose between them. While I do see flags nothing happens when I click on them, not does the game manual address this.

Just to confirm, are you playing PBEM++ or Hotseat mode? I just ask as this option only works for Single Player mode against the AI etc.

Also you can only click on the flags on your side and it has to be a left button mouse click. Just throwing all that out there in case it a simple oversight.

It's Classic Strategic Command WW I. From the start menu I choose Play the Great War. I click through the menus until I get to Choose your Side. There are two choices, Central Powers on the left, and Entente on the right. There are flags displayed but I cannot click on them, only the bar directly below. I cannot play as a single country.

FOARP -> RE: Can You Play as 1 Country? (3/31/2020 5:44:57 AM)

This is the forum for the new version of strategic command, not the classic one, which is where some of the confusion on this thread is coming from.

Hubert Cater -> RE: Can You Play as 1 Country? (3/31/2020 2:43:50 PM)

Ah that makes sense, the classic version is the older version of the game and that version of the game never had the option to have the AI play countries on your side. The new WWI release certainly does as do the new releases of War in Europe and World at War.

For the Classic version of WWI, this would be the applicable forum:

Hope this helps,
