Playing a multiplayer game where both player automaticily upgraded to the lastest patch through steam.
First turn using the newest patch both players experience the game freezing from time to time or crashing to desktop

Is this first turn of a new game or first turn under new patch? There may be problems with older games, if save was already corrupted by bugs in the older version...

I have not experienced crashes to desktop but there is a problem with calculating interdiction attacks. This occasionally can take up to 20 seconds. So I move a unit and it freezes after a couple of hexes and takes up to 20 seconds before an interdiction attack happens or not.
