Benedict151 -> Central Powers Research (SP game) (4/1/2020 1:23:27 PM)

With the social distancing rules now in place in the UK I spent some time playing through a SP player game as Allies using v1.04. With the advantage of hindsight (from previous games) played fairly conservatively and won at the end of 2016.

Out of curiosity at the end of the game I checked to see what the AI had been researching and in the main it looked to me as if Germany and Turkey had been fairly 'sensible'. I didn't check Austria Hungary is it has surrendered a few months earlier.

Germany had reached maximum research levels for Command Control, Infantry weapons and artillery (both guns and ammo production) - all made sense. It had also invested in aircraft research and couple of other things.
What was slightly surprising was that Infantry Warfare was only level 2 and it had not done any research into submarines at all. If it had done the latter it would have given me pause for thought as in mid 1916 Germany made a concentrated effort to break the blockade and put a substantial number of units raiding the NM convoy hexes. It did this using both the High Seas Fleet (admittedly weakened due to 'carelessly' losing a number of destroyers and cruisers earlier in the war but still at full strength in terms of capital ships) and initially really put me on the back foot - if the submarines had been at development level 2 or 3 it would have been a lot harder to contain and defeat (British ASW warfare was at level 1, getting close to level 2).

Turkey's research didn't look too bad either although I did note that it had invested in submarine research despite not having any actual submarines (!) and IIRC armoured warfare (which for Turkey seems pointless).

regards
Ben

Even for 1917 scenario Turkey shouldn't produce rail gun, airship, Recon B, TB, destroyer and much more. All thorough WW1 era planes wasn't produced and used. Maybe these research items should be removed.
