Rain08 -> [Logged] Aggressive Intercept Angles on Patrol Mission? (4/6/2020 5:38:12 AM)

This is just something I've noticed in CMO (I think for sometime actually). Whenever a flight intercepts an aerial contact and the flight is at a distance away, the flight goes in a rather inefficient(?) intercept path. Now, I do think that such path is fine if the contact is just going to identified. However, if the contact is already identified as hostile (NCTR) and the WRA/doctrine settings allows the flight to shoot the contact, the problem is that the flight can't fire its weapons because the contact is not within the sensor arc. What tends to happen is that the flight will continue flying in a straight line until it reaches the intercept point and a merge happens so it turns into a WVR combat. The flight just basically treats itself like a missile. It's not of a big issue in planes with bigger sensor arcs (AESA), but it's an issue for older planes (especially those that fires SARH missiles). The picture below should just show it. It can really get finicky if there is a shooting war already.
