Rain08 -> [Logged] Aggressive Intercept Angles on Patrol Mission? (4/6/2020 5:38:12 AM)

This is just something I've noticed in CMO (I think for sometime actually). Whenever a flight intercepts an aerial contact and the flight is at a distance away, the flight goes in a rather inefficient(?) intercept path. Now, I do think that such path is fine if the contact is just going to identified. However, if the contact is already identified as hostile (NCTR) and the WRA/doctrine settings allows the flight to shoot the contact, the problem is that the flight can't fire its weapons because the contact is not within the sensor arc. What tends to happen is that the flight will continue flying in a straight line until it reaches the intercept point and a merge happens so it turns into a WVR combat. The flight just basically treats itself like a missile.

It's not of a big issue in planes with bigger sensor arcs (AESA), but it's an issue for older planes (especially those that fires SARH missiles). The picture below should just show it.

I'm not sure if this is WAD but if it is, can there be changes made to avoid such aggressive intercept angles? It can really get finicky if there is a shooting war already.

Seems planes use "lead pursuit"...at least in this case.

In this case "pure pursuit" would be way more effective.

Thanks! Logged (#13768) and we will definitely have a look into this.

The logic should probably be "switch to pure-pursuit upon entering own-sensor or weapon range".

Excellent change, IMHO.
