Michael T -> Best East Front Scenario? (4/7/2020 9:36:41 PM)

I am relatively new to TOAW 4. Could some long time players suggest the best scenario for *PBEM* play for Russia 41-45? For two players. Something playable, reasonably balanced and fairly historically accurate.

As all I have looked at so far seem to have one or more serious flaws. Perhaps there are some good East Front scenario's I am not aware of available for download somewhere.

Right now I am playing Bob's CFNA which is superb.

May I suggest Brian Topp's Operation Blau 4.1. Lot's of fun and actually it can be won by Germans (but is very hard). FiTE 1 is a lot of fun. And this one is not WW2 but Daniel McBride's The Great War is a masterpiece. 1947 is a monster and FiTE 2 I am scared to play. [:)]

And of course Operation Braunschweig 7.1 by Daniel McBride, is also game on it's own worth thousands of dollars.

In my humble opinion, FITE 2 in TOAW IV is a superb Eastern Front game. Regimental level, 3.5 day turns, a hugh map, that can be disorienting at times, a slew of options, and what if's. Not for the feint of heart, but the mother of all East Front games. Another is Drang Nach Osten, a great scenario, if you can find it. It was a popular scenario in TOAW III, but that scenario ends in '42. Good luck!

I'm assuming you mean something that won't take as long to play as the real campaign did?

LOL, yes. Which precludes FITE 2

You might consider FitE1 version 5.0, it is the predecessor to Fite2 I think.

I have a PBEM game going in FitE1 against GeneralJCL (AAR in AAR section) and we are currently around move 110 (June 1942) and it is fun to play, is not so overwhelming as FitE2 in scope but FitE1 seems to be very playable even though it was done for TOAW III iirc.

YMMV!

I am getting the feeling that it is tilted in favor of Soviets, but the Colossus of the Soviet Army is hard to ignore once it gets rolling. Currently in that game (me as Soviets) I am pushing back on Pskov / AGN AGC retreating but AGS is pushing back, there is a lot of play in it for both players, I think.
