THW -> Central Front 1989: NATO/Warsaw Pact- Final Playtest (4/11/2020 4:43:29 AM)

G'day,

Bill Lott and I have been working on a NATO/WP scenario for a few years now, as time permits. 29 one day turns, Regt/Bde level, 10km hexes, Denmark through to Bavaria. I think it's pretty good to go, but would like some fresh eyes to look at it. Does anyone want to join me in a playtest, or to play with a mate and give me some feedback?

Best played as PBEM, I can't programme the PO properly it seems.

Hi THW,

I've collected a lot of data about the forces from that timeframe. If you would care for OOB or organization of units feedback, please send me a copy of the scenario.

Cheers

I’d like to take look, I might be able to help with the PO.

I would like to see a copy. Perhaps I could take a go at the PO.

See Red Thunder II 1988, 25km at Rgt/Brigade units, thirty single-day turns (my modification of Eric Rutins Red Thunder 1988 with his kind permission.)

I would love to test it out

General comments.

I love the scale and dimensions of the map. Plenty of strategic rear area for both sides.

Initial checks of orbat look good. Some sources I have vary a bit on equipment for some spot checks I made, but nothing dramatic. I will give that an in-depth look, probably army by army.

I like the Soviet regiment vs NATO brigade unit scale. Classic war games almost always depict the Soviets at division level, something that I think dates back to paper war games and limitations on how many counters were included in a game. No need for that in TOAW, and it is impressive to see how many regiments the Warsaw Pact had.

Lots of research apparent in this work, will enjoy looking at it more closely.

Cheers!
