I have a random game without resources.

My engineers have built:

8 factories
2 airbases

Now they will no longer build anything at all.

I the screenshot I have marked an engineer with unit with 20 engineers it has 100 AP and 200 EP.
The build icon is "greyed out". If I mouse over the build icon a help text is shown on the status line above stating - "BUILDING NOT AN OPTION".

I need to build airbases to get my aircraft nearer to the front. How can I get the engineers to build?

I think it might be that the terrain you are trying to build in is suburban? It's hard to tell what the terrain is. It could also be that you are too close to another location (city), and therefore it is not allowed (a restriction put in to prevent that the map becomes a cluster of locations).

He is in fields. The closest towns are 3 hexes away (2 intervening hexes) there is an airfield 4 hexes away (3 intervening hexes.

I have taken a screenshot of another engineer. (But I am not allowed to post another picture within 7 days).

This one is in a Plains hex. The closest town is 6 hexes away and the closest building is 7 hexes away. The engineer has 296 EP and 100 AP. It has not moved. The build icon is disabled and the mouse over text for the icon, shows Building is not an option.

You will have to take my word for it that the information I have given is correct.

If I am not completely mistaken (and it's been a while since I played the stock version) I believe you need to have some RAW to be able to build an airbase?

Should still show it just not be able to do it. Seems to me depending on the options you took there is one that severely restricts the amount of stuff you can build.

Thanks for the replies.

Normally you need Supplies I believe, possibly RAW also. However as Twotribes states it should still show the build list but show that I am missing for example RAW or AP or EP or whatever.

This is a standard Random Game the only non-standard option is that I removed the X for Use Resources. ie. The map has no OIL or RAW deposits.

To me a limit on factories makes sense but a limit on Airfields does not. If there is going to be a hard limit then airfields and factories should be on separate limits and there should be an option to delete existing airfields or factories. I tried blowing up an existing airfield with no luck it just gets damaged.

Thanks for your help solving this. After our little discussion about resources I checked the statistics screens. Looking at the Raw curve it pointed one way - down, and a few turns ago it hit rock bottom. It seems when you choose to NOT - USE RESOURCES, there are no resource nodes but there is some base production. If your usage outstrips the base production you run out. I put some occupied towns on Ore production and it got me enough ore to be able to build.

This also shows that the build menu WILL show if you have too little EP, AP, or supply, but if you have no raw/ore you get the "Building not an option".

Thanks again for the discussion which helped inspire me to carry on looking for answers.

BTW. Before discovering the lack of RAW. I did manage to get my engineers to blow an existing airfield but that did not help me. So there was no "limit" to building.
