Is there any reason to keep so many airplanes to naval patrol duties?
I guess the Kriegsmarine is no more a threat by 1944 so what is their purpose?Sub hunting?
Also I experimented by making manually some patrols but you cannot assign them any escorts so
they have lots of losses on AtA combat.
What am I missing here?

Also another question, when I select escorts for a bombing raid that they are out of range, they do not appear in the raid's strength even if they can follow the raid to a point.
Are they escorting they raid until they are bingo fuel or are they not take off at all?

1) yes, it reduces attrition, remember the Germans still had naval assets right up to the end of the war that could (& did) hit unprotected troop and supply ships

2) escorts must be from the same command, so if you need close escort assign some to the coastal air. or stick an Air Superiority AD over the same box, that should be enough

3) yes they fly to the limit so protect vs early interceptions
