Markiss -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (11/15/2020 10:46:21 PM)

I am up for another game if anyone is looking for an easy one to pad their stats.

I currently have a game going as Axis, I would prefer Allies in this one.

First come, first serve.

Crickets?

I know that my one-game winning streak is intimidating, but surely there must be someone who has the courage to pick up the gauntlet...

Fenndon -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (11/18/2020 4:22:51 AM)

Markiss,

I am up for a game. Happy to go Axis.

Etzel -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (11/18/2020 7:51:14 PM)

Tourney match ended: MJY (Axis) vs Etzel(Allies). Allied victory March 1944.
Thanks to MJY for this interesting match! We will start a rematch and this time it might be impossible to expel MJY from Stalingrad ...

BPINisBACK(Axis) vs Scottydawg(Allies)

Allies request an armistice as its May 1945, Paris, Berlin, Rome and El Cairo are in Axis hands. I think this is an Axis Victory! [:'(][:'(]

Axis never take any of the three key cities in Russia. No Vichy, Spanish joined Axis quite late (December 1941). US dow Axis on April 42 (I think). Norway joined Axis by Diplomacy (after heavy raiding by Allies).

Axis subs (level 3) survived up to 1945.

WA landed in France at the end of summer 44 (i think) but German forces could CA many times and Paris was safe almost all the time. No air superiority for WA (not enough air superiority, i mean).

A lot of action in Africa and, specially at the Caucasus where, after two years of fighthing Axis were close to fully conquer it at Spring 45. Turkey also joined allies in 1945.

A very much fun game, thank you Scottydawg!!!

BPINisBACK -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (11/24/2020 4:44:34 PM)

El_Condoro(Axis) vs BPINisBACK(Allies)
Allied victory on 1944, November.
France fall a bit late but Axis DOW on Russia very early (April 41?). Soon Leningrad y Stalingrad was in german hands. But, after tons of suffering and pain and dozens of units lost, Moscow never falled even with 2 or 3 units next to the city!! With several causalties (much of them with low supply) the Axis economy couldn't afford enought units to press at other theaters of war.
At the end an also quite early DDay could be suscesfull and with a slow but determined advance in the Mediterranean area Axis lost the war.
Thank you very much "El Condoro" for this lovely fight, you fighted until the last men, I take my hat off!!

El_Condoro -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (11/24/2020 6:48:00 PM)

Yes, it was an epic struggle. Once again my Axis forces are not able to take that 3rd Russian city and get ground down by the weather and attrition. That said, it seemed like the Allies were the ones that were like ants on the ground - everywhere! Thanks for the game. Cheers

Anyone for a new game?? I´d like to play Allies...

Scottydawg -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (11/29/2020 3:08:48 PM)

Yes this was a slug fest indeed! My opponent manipulated a "late-start" approach to things which assured him Spain and a 12 month delay to Barbarossa--the conditions which Russia thereby started the war under were intoxicating, with a nearly full research que and an exploding economy...alas this was insufficient! A most instructive and rewarding game to be sure; and a slippery opponent! Good game.

Scottydawg -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (1/1/2021 4:22:48 PM)

Markiss…I must formally congratulate you on your initial success in operation “Herbstnebel”. You have sown fear and doubt into the allied high command—indeed SHAEF was badly mauled with General Auchinleck’s command virtually destroyed while Eisenhower himself barely escaped with roughly 70% of his command eliminated! It is still unclear how Auchinleck evaded capture by the advance armor spearheads; Claude will never be the same. Our intel suggests that the primary objective of your offensive is the port complex of Antwerp; it also appears that victory is in sight, with only a small blocking force to oppose your next move.

The Manchester Guardian wrote (January 2, 1945):
The new year brings a great tragedy in British history
as it is thought Field Marshal Sir Claude John Eyre
Auchinleck has been killed in action following enemy
attacks in Belgium. The details of this action remain
clouded. It is thought however that a Nazi counter-
offensive struck a lucky blow in a weakened sector of
the captured Siegfried line near the Meuse river.

Markiss -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (1/1/2021 7:53:36 PM)

Everything came together for an historically timed Battle of the Bulge, and I couldn't resist. In December '44 the front had become static along the Siegfried line, and the Allies were settling in for the Winter. Snug in their beds and confident in victory, the Allies opened up their Christmas turn to find the panzers rolling.

Concealed by foul weather the previous turn, 5 panzer armies snuck up to the line and jumped off in perfect weather, the way paved by the remnants of the Luftwaffe, gathered from the 4 corners of the earth for one last great offensive.

The assault penetrated the front lines and got into the enemy rear, sowing panic and destruction.

The foul weather then returned, preventing the enemy's air power from being brought to bear, just as I had hoped.

Enemy is now in retreat, trying desperately to form a new defensive line.

Unfortunately, the snow also blunts my offensive effectiveness, and the rail network in this part of Germany is a wreck, choking off supplies to my spearhead. I didn't make it to Antwerp this turn, but I might make it next turn if the weather cooperates.

Or, I might not. One turn of clear weather for the Allies and my fun ends, we will see what I can accomplish before then.

Regardless of the result, it was immensely satisfying to pull off the attack on the historical date in the historical place. It took some luck, but I even managed to get the same initial success and hopefully generated just a little of the shock and panic of the actual assault. In a match that had become a bit dull and predictable otherwise, it was the best entertainment I could offer. Hence the reference to a gift..
