Justus2 -> Questions about unit customization (5/16/2020 1:39:15 AM)

I have watched several of the videos from Tortuga and DasTactic (great series by both!), but had a couple questions on how much flexibility you have with units in the game.

1. Is it possible to attach/combine units? I saw several times where one of the players would find some GR tech and create a new unit (ie 200xGR Solders, or 200xGR Jetpacks). They mentioned these units were powerful, but vulnerable. Is it possible to attach/merge them into a 'normal' battalion or regiment (as an additional sub-unit) to beef up that unit, but add some protection?

2. What is the effect of the Brigade or Corps HQ on sub-units, and is it possible to realign smaller units (Bns for example) from one Bde HQ to another?

3. Is it possible to rename units? I saw DasTactic was able to rename his starting city, but I don't think I've seen any renaming of units.

Can't wait for June 4th! [:)]

Thanks. :)

I haven't found a way of adding units to the special tokens themselves - for example adding some grunts to GR jet-pack units. But you can add some independent tokens to OHQ commands so you get specialist forces as part of the OOQ. It doesn't really protect them as such other than if you keep adding in chaff units to soak up the hits.

The SHQ and OHQ get a die roll to help their units during attacks or defence so it can be helpful to get a few more percentage points of hitpoints and damage. You can split units off from OHQs but I haven't found a way to recombine them properly.

Yes, units can be renamed. :)

Thanks for the quick reply! I have only made it through the first 12 episodes of your series, but I have already learned a lot and look forward to the actual release!!

Something i was wondering too... Perhaps if those one scrappes the GR units (they go to SHQ then) and then make a new unit, partially normal rifles partly GR? Would that work?

But yeh.. the ability to combine units would be nice... Militia can have any makeup already :)

edit: spelling

Not with what I've seen. The GR forces are pretty much stand-alone tokens that can be added to OHQs. Also the Walkers you pick up in the fate cards work the same where you can't combine them.

Thz for the answer Das. It's too bad.. they kinda seems they lose some effectiveness because of their size.

KingHalford -> RE: Questions about unit customization (5/17/2020 9:10:36 PM)

I think they're pretty effective when properly supported, even in small numbers. They can work as a spearhead that can tear through anything the early game can throw at them! It's definitely worth combining them together to make larger units if you find more though!

Vic -> RE: Questions about unit customization (5/18/2020 5:08:20 PM)

It is possible to create "Battle Groups". These can have any mix of Troops. They however have some disadvantages as well as they are really "ad hoc" Formations.

Transferring between Units is possible, but if it doesn't concern a "Battle Group" the TOE of the Units has to be respected.

So there ain't the full flexibility seen in for example Advanced Tactics, but there is "some" flexibility.

Best wishes,
Vic

Lack of a more deterministic OOB (e.g. formations, task orgs) is somewhat regrettable.

However, fully random selection, as it is now, is certainly easier to balance with your NPC AI. The AI doesn't need to select an OOB critical path; therefore the player can't have that option either.
