I'm stoked for James Marsden as Stu Redman.

Jesus, Whoopi scared me in that photo in Vanity Fair! Is she on the Randall Flagg team now or what?[8|]

That's interesting.

The first mini-series was pretty doggone good** (the main exception being Randall Flagg's funky red eyes). They really did a commendable job, considering it was made-for-television programming.

In the right hands, the remake could be remarkably better....or horrifically worse.

**I watched the entire series on YouTube about two months ago. It's probably still available there, for those hard-put to find entertainment in this non-baseball environment.

I have it burned onto DVD from back when.

It was OK. Not great. Kind of campy on the evil side. Too much campy, really, not enough true evil to it. A little hokey on the good side, too.

Can easily see how it would be hard to get past that unless you'd read the book and were a fan.

Hope they bring John Milius to film the parts taking place in Colorado. Colorado looked great in his "Red Dawn" movie.

I thought 'The Stand' TV special was a good retelling of the book which is somewhat rare in my experience.
I'm a skeptic of any remakes. Just look at "The Day the Earth Stood Still' They turned classic sci-fi into
a pc pile of crap(IMHO)

The original "The Thing" was excellent. The remake was excellent. The original "True Grit" was excellent (but a bit hokey). I haven't seen it yet but I bet Jeff Bridges was excellent. Just don't remake "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Wizard of Oz". "Body Snatchers"? I dunno. The original "War of the Worlds" was excellent. The Tom Cruise remake was outstanding. I kind of like them all, each in their own way, but they can stop doing Godzilla. King Kong? Barf.

You really can't make a movie out of Moby Dick but what they did was ok if it only got some kids interested in reading the thing. Making a movie about the Essex is an excellent idea but I haven't seen it. Should I? Ron Howard's usually pretty good.

"Forbidden Planet" has spawned all sorts of stuff, some really good. Galaxy Quest!

I think it's worth a watch if you can get it from a library. I don't think it was good enough to justify the price of a theater ticket, but it was entertaining, and I'd watch it again if I saw it at my local library.

I agree, that movie stands the test of time. Back before CGI the movies had to have a story to tell.
I think the original Time Machine was first rate too. I could go on and on....

The remake of True Grit with Jeff Bridges was indeed very good.

Nothing beats John Wayne yelling "We ain't got no lemonade neither!"
