William the Silent -> Artillery effectiveness (5/26/2020 11:04:13 AM)

I'm trying to find out what equipment in an artillery unit determines/influences the fire power of the unit.
Example: a guard crew is far more effective with 8 of the same 12Pdrs then a conscript crew. So guard units/crews cause more casualties and are more accurate with exactly the same guns.

Let's say I create 2 artillery brigades with 2 batteries: One brigade has 1 regular and 1 guard battery of 12Pdr guns
and one brigade has 2 regular 12Pdr batteries.

How do I simulate the fact that 1/2 of the first brigade is far more effective (more fire power) with the same guns and will cause more casualties.

Do I create guard 12Pdrs (with higher A/D values) and regular 12Pdrs (with average values) as equipment.
Or do I create guard crews and regular crews with different values.

What effects the fire power (or overall effectiveness) of the unit with the same gun type?

It should be the crew, but I don't think it works like that in TOAW. The crew only gives non fire power strength.

If you are talking about creating two entries in the Eqp file then it sounds like you have it figured out, for example:
12Pdr (g) = 12 AP
12Pdr (c) = 6 AP

This seems to be more about unit proficiency rather than the lethality of the weapon. Adjusting the AP of the weapon is one solution, but I would favor adjusting proficiency.

Option 1: Keep the regulars and guards separate. One brigade of regulars at 70% proficiency and the second of guards at 50%.

Option 2: If you want to mix regular and guards, build brigades with a proficiency in proportion to the regular/guard ratio.

The advantage I see for these options is that the guards will have the opportunity to increase proficiency as they gain battle experience. With the AP set at a lower level there is no opportunity to improve.

There you have a good point.

I guess crews have not much influence on the fire power but more on the melee/proficiency of the total unit.
For fire power I have to use sPzAbt653 solution.

I thought it might be good to have some more input before I decide a direction.
Thanks!

The time a scenario spans matters also. If it's months then the conscripts become more proficient. The proficient Guards were not always proficient Guards. They were also noobs at some point in time.

Whatever you decide, please post the scenario when ready. Doesn't need to be the finished product, a beta will do just fine.
