Oh, come on! Can't you see this as a great "buddy" movie? A group of regular guys, who all are linked through this forum, and who still have to face the things we all face in our day to day lives.

Just look at some of the stuff that's happened here in the last few months...

The incident with Jennie, when she was buying Jess' Father's day gift...and the amazing response to that the members of the forum made!

The problems faced by gmenfan, and the support he's been shown by his "brothers" here.

The trip to Aberdeen, and the upcoming SPWAW-CON's in Kentucky, and Europe.

The locker room style banter we engage in here, combined with the deep respect and loyalty we share for each other.

I'm telling you, we could have an Oscar winner on our hands if it's done right. :)

Or, maybe not a "buddy" movie...how about action/adventure? A group of online wargamers band together and raid an armor museum, using the museum exhibits (because we're all experts on these antiques) to defeat an army of terrorists holding the Swedish Bikini Team hostage!

I'm telling you guys...we're sitting on a goldmine here. :)

Excuse me...I think I have a screenplay to go write...
It couldn't be any worse than 'Thelma and Louise' or 'National Lampoon's European Vacation'. (could it?)

Jim1954 -> (7/28/2003 11:06:50 PM)

And John Wayne as "The Kunel"

:cool:

Don Doom -> (7/28/2003 11:07:03 PM)

Red Green:)

Wild Bill -> (7/29/2003 10:58:24 AM)

Both Sam Elliot and John Wayne have been icons of mine through the years.

I remember David Heath telling me that the old First Sergeant, played by Sam Elliot, in "We Were Soldiers" was me in the flesh.

I guess we both have the deep voice, southern drawl, a no bull s... stare and a few lines on our face.

So I'll gladly step aside. Of course the Duke left us nearly 30 years ago.

And now that Orzel has dressed me up in fatigues and put birds on my lapel, I feel like a real Colonel.

What the heck, I'll just play myself. :eek:

Gallo Rojo -> (7/29/2003 9:13:45 PM)

Al Paccino .... when younger and with beard ... let's say Al Paccino when played Serpico ... ;)

... now ...

Frist: no body chosen the Hollywood-Clasic-German-Officer Peter Cushing?? Very surprised and dissapoinded by you my friends ;) :D

Second: No boby chosen Densel Washington ... so I have to assume that there are no African-Americans playing SPWaW?? (and no body chosen Toshiro Mifune neither)

Third: another question:

Who would direct the movie??

I vote for Francis Ford Copolla ... but I think that I will lost :)

Absolutely.

Ridley Scott. :cool:

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (7/29/2003 9:43:28 PM)

I don't think I would mind who directed it as long as when a grenade goes off, it doesn't look like a terrorist attack on a gas station is under way.

That, and I would prefer the actors to look like soldiers, and not actors.
I was impressed with Mel in We Were Soldiers, but think that Nic Cage in Windtalkers made the film look like Nic Cage that just happened to have some indians with him. That, and the movie sucked.

A film can be funny and still credible. As silly as Kelly's Heroes was, it still had shermans for shermans, and a very good tiger mockup.

Losqualo -> (7/29/2003 10:16:17 PM)

That's the best summary of the "what's you favourite war movie"-thread I've read so far :p.

Actually, I had considered having JoLo play me in the movie, especially since I usually play SPWAW in my underwear and I felt she could portray that far better than Robin WIlliams could...and with much more interest on the part of the critics. ;)

Yes, those Hollywood "Napalm Grenades" do tend to be a little unrealistic. The same with lead bullets sparking off trees, whining ricochets off various soft objects (I once saw a movie that had whining, sparking ricochets off a hay bale!) and untamped dynamite charges (usually 4-5 sticks) taking down entire buildings. Oh, and the guy who picks up the .50 cal, throws a belt over his shoulder and then charges the enemy, firing as he goes. Take a look at my avatar picture... That's half a belt of .50 cal I'm wearing, and it weighed close to 50 pounds. Add a Ma Deuce on top of that, in addition to the other 100 pounds of gear your average grunt carried, and the guy would be lucky he could stand up, let alone run. Not to mention it's impossible to feed an MG from a belt that's wrapped around your freakin' neck without strangling yourself! :D Been there, tried that, it don't work!

Beer. Don't forget about the beer. :D
Hmm, so this is gonna be an "Easy Rider meets the Dirty Dozen" sort of road warrior movie? Well then, fire one up, err, I mean I'm fired up! ;) I guess I'll still be played by Matt Modine as he was in "Full Metal Jacket"--Private Joker indeed. :D

Vathailos -> I only hope... (7/30/2003 4:24:11 AM)

Paul Rubens has a hand in the film.

I'm thinking he could pull off Hawk. :p

Thoughts?

Orzel Bialy -> LOL... (7/30/2003 5:26:26 AM)

That was a good one...I have to admit. :D

RobW -> (7/31/2003 2:34:11 PM)

Well I would go for the Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks combo ala Saving Private Ryan & Band of Brothers. I would also plump for Michael Kamen for the sound track - ok you have guessed it - I think Band of Brothers is superb - wish the same team would make other classics in this style - Longest Day or A Bridge Too Far with their touch on it would be class...... (having said that both originals are good too)

I know what you mean, Bernie.

Guys, take a look at this; .50 cal ammo is frickin' HUGE. :eek: No wonder V2's scout .50 cals make mincemeat out of my AFVs... :rolleyes:

Are there any other things you have lying on your bed ;), besides .50 ammunition?

Actually, if you look close at the base of those rounds you'll see they have no primers... They're dummies...fakes.

So, if he does have anything else on that bed, it's probably...errr...inflatable. :)

Kokoda -> Actors' Equity makes an appeal... (8/4/2003 11:41:42 AM)

I see nobody is looking to have Marlon Brando represent them...

...and Kenneth Brannagh has appeared in a few war movies that Shakespeare wrote the screenplay for...

scimitar -> (8/4/2003 12:04:00 PM)

Donald Duck (why not a cartoon after all?)

Quite right, those are dummies. "For display only". Then again, it's not my bed ;), it's a GIS for ".50 cal ammo" result.

(my bed would in that case have a much cooler camo cover, in the Swedish M-90 pattern)

I take no responsibilty for inflated cattle or their safety. :D

Errr... Sorry! Those red garters and fishnets made my mind go blank....:confused:

Jess! Would you take those off already and put them back on the sheep?!? :D

Irinami -> (8/11/2003 4:21:11 AM)

Li'l Tom Felton (give him a few years) for the real me... Jackie Chan (despite being Chinese) for Irinami... 'cause he panicks perfectly. :D

The Kunel as himself...

Tom Arnold as M4...

R. Lee Ermey for VikingNo2...

Bruce Campbell as Hawk...

and the freakish Christopher Walken as Goblin. :D
