jagsdomain -> Has anyine ever updated the manual? (6/3/2020 2:42:01 PM)

There are so many questions that are not answered in the manual.
The US ammo ships in 42 Pyro, how many and what types of ships can you reload?
Best types of transports for small ports.
More detailed info on how sub tenders and so on work.
I am sure there are alot more but the manual is worded very Strangly Somtimes and it would be nice for an updated manual.
Is there one?

Best transport for small ports

Many thigs to consider here:

1.Possible VP loss versus cargo delivered

Port level 1 (max tonnage docked 6,000 tonnes).

You can use 3 x Australian 1000 capacity xAKLs, (tonnage about 3000 tonnes), Amphib mode, 2400 supplies loaded, total VP value of shisp: 3 VPs
You can use 1 x Australian 3150 capacity xAP (tonnage 3750), Amphib load, load rougly 2400 supllies, total VP value of ship: 12 VPs

2.Survivability of your ships

Small xAKLs/xAKs with 0.303 AAMGs (range 2000, ceiling 1700) almost NEVER shoot against aircraft/subs owing to lack of... range/ceiling. As good as unarmed. If you convert 3200 capacity Transmarine xAK you get an AG with DP/heavy AA in twelve days, and the new ship class fits easily in port level 1 with escorts

3.Experience levels of ships

Merchant ship exp at game'sstart is pretty low in 5-25 experience range on first turn. Always check if the exp of xAKL/xAK you want to use. Two ships may be in identical class, but one ship exp is 6, and the other one may be 25.

Hope it helps.

The info you want IS in the manual, in the charts for port loading and unloading. They tell you how much ship tonnage (not load capacity) can be docked, the unload rates for docked vs undocked and cargo/transport vs amphibious. For very small ports, amphib unloading is faster than docking the ship, except for large items like engineering vehicles. The game abstracts having lighters available at the port to transfer things that are too heavy for the dock, but larger ports have more and larger lighters to help with such things, and sturdier docks for unloading.

There are also ammo reloading tables showing what capacity you need in an AE or AKE to load ammo for a given gun, or to handle depth charges, mines and torpedoes and bombs. Ammo ships can handle all types of ordnance within their capacity. Specialized ships like AS and AD and AG handle ordnance specific to subs, DDs and smaller craft respectively. Those specialized ships also help with minor repairs of their respective warship types. There are charts in the manual showing what support ships are for which combat types.

AFAIK, crew experience and the naval skill of the captain is only important to avoid collisions between the two xAKs. For warships, crew experience and captain skill have a big effect on battle results and damage amelioration.

jagsdomain -> RE: Has anyine ever updated the manual? (6/5/2020 9:18:00 PM)

Thank you very much for the detail. I am converting them when they get into a port. I am also going to convert some of the 5050 AK as well

Moltrey -> RE: Has anyine ever updated the manual? (6/5/2020 9:34:54 PM)

Good stuff Yaab, thanks. I knew about the Ammo ship angle, but really like the AG slant, very interesting.
P.
Note that a planned conversion ship needs to be at anchor (not in a TF) in a Size 7-10 Major port in order to convert.
