NeyLutzow -> Performance drop during night battle (6/4/2020 11:55:32 AM)

Hello,

I bought the game on GOG and i'm currently experiencing the same problem I was in Last Stand Arnhem.

During a night battle every time I or the enemy uses flare my frame rate drops, burning vehicles also cause frame rate drops, in fact the light(illumination area) causes the frame drop.

I also have flickering unit name don't know if this is correlated.

Thanks.

The light sources at night do put an extra load on your video card, but this shouldn't be significant for most modern systems. What sort of video card / driver do you have? Do you have other machines you can try it on and see if you get the same thing?

I've responded to your question about unit names flickering in a different thread. That is unrelated to the light sources.

My specs are:

Windowns 10 Home
Ryzen 5 1600
GTX 1050 Ti
16 GB Ram

Forgot to add the driver version - nvidia driver version 446.14

SteveMcClaire -> RE: Performance drop during night battle (6/5/2020 6:38:14 PM)

That should certainly be able to handle the game. I will take a look. Thanks.

Just posting to report that on my end the problem still persist even after the last '5.50.32' update. But thanks for trying to fix.

Try Nvidia driver 456.71.

I have a 1660 TI with that driver and it is working fine.

NeyLutzow -> RE: Performance drop during night battle (10/23/2020 9:45:41 PM)

That's the driver im currently using. I don't know if the problem is with my 1050ti or not, but on gateway to caen and panthers in the fog the night effects works without a problem no fps lost. I only have this problem with the Longest day and Last Stand Arnhem.

So what i did was disable the night battles not ideal but at least i can play the campaign. I also do this with mods that use night battles. The fps loss is very frustating. If a tank is on fire after being destroyed he will also sunk my fps because of the light coming from the flames.

But thank you for trying to help.

Hi NeyLutzow -- did you notice any improvement? It definitely sounds like there may be something else about your system that is contributing to the slow down. A relatively small light from a burning tank certainly shouldn't have that large an impact. Does it make a difference if you scrolling the map vs. leaving the viewpoint stationary?

Panthers in the Fog and Gateway to Caen use 32-bit color graphics and thus are able to use more efficient ways of rendering the flare texture. Last Stand Arnhem and older titles (including The Longest Day) use 16-bit color graphics and are less efficient on modern systems.

Hi Mr.Steve McClaire,

Yes I did notice a little improvement, leaving the viewpoint stationary also helps a little bit but the fps drop is still there.
I think there must be a problem on my end but its very hard to find the root of it because this fps drop only happens with LSA and Longest Day. I also play other games and have no problem like this one.

But thanks for your support in trying to fix this problem im having.

Tejszd -> RE: Performance drop during night battle (10/28/2020 12:53:18 AM)

This shouldn't affect TLD/LSA since they are not 3D though its worth a try.

Open the he Nvidia Control Panel and under 3D settings click on Restore to set everything to default.

Hi Mr. Tejszd

I already try that in the past and after I updated to this new driver.

But thanks for trying to help.

If it only speeds up a little when you leave the view stationary then there is something in the DirectDraw/DirectX layer or video driver that is slowing things down, as the game itself is doing very little if you have a flare active and do not scrolling the map.

You might try re-installing DirectX 9: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429

NeyLutzow -> RE: Performance drop during night battle (10/28/2020 3:30:00 PM)

I also think its something about my Directdrawn/DirectX, but when i tried to run the dxwebsetup i received the warning/message: "You must be running Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 family to install the DirectX 9.0"

I currently use win 10 home. I will search if there is a way to install on win 10.

Thank you so much for trying to fix my problem.

NeyLutzow -> RE: Performance drop during night battle (10/28/2020 9:08:56 PM)

After a bit of research the only one i was able to install on my machine was this one:

directx_Jun2010_redist* Im not allowed to post the link.

But the fps drop is still happening.

Thanks
