I've never been charged tax on a digital download from Matrix or anywhere (GOG) in the past. What's up with the tax on Shadow Empire digital purchase?

I think it's legally correct for Digital Sales to/in Texas to be charged Sales Tax on digital purchases?

I don't currently know what would have changed recently to meant that you didn't see this previously.

“Taxable as long as the item also taxable if sold in physical format.”

If that VAT logic is really applied by Matrix it should be based on the availability of an upgrade to boxed version.
Maybe the OP only bought titles that were digital only?
