Rhodan -> give the man a medal..a BIG one. (7/3/2001 4:04:00 AM)

Ok, finally I got version 5.3 installed. Allready being warned about these tough ass infantry units, I figured I might as well give it a whirl in a infantry heavy scenario I once made . The following is here for your amusement not as critism toward Matrixgames or version 5.3 I think that topic has been well covered in other threads. Having designed the scenario I was ofcourse very much aware of those german spec ops units that would pop up on the other side of the river that needed crossing...MY side of the river that is. So there I am with the pride of the Dutch army at the time, several platoons of infantry , two rickety tanks and a mule. ( well ok, no mule, i DID have an A0 unit though..that's for you fellow NCO's out there ). Anyway, I had held one of those tanks in reserve because I knew that sooner or later Fritz would come for a beer and had no intend in paying for it. According to the best traditions that tankcrew was sleeping on the job and got jumped by a german spec ops squad who swiftly reduced the tank to a smoldering heap of molten metal. So far nothign new right..now the fun part, there was a survivor from that tank, let's call him Heineken for the sake of the argument. Heineken somehow managed, singlehandedly, to fight off and TOTALLY eradicate two crack german specs op units, with nothing more then his small arms, his boots and a vicious looking can opener. The man deserved a monument where it not for the fact that the Hand of God accidentally guided him into an mortar barrage he had called for himself to deal with those spec op units. Bit embarssing really. Now I know this is a fluke, even in 5.3 , and perhaps the rough terrain helped with his survival, all I had was a good laugh about it because It reminded me of that movie with that gopher on/under a golf course, starring Chevy Chase...Caddieshack (spelling?). I could just see that head pop out of the ground, look around, and pop back down again. Ok back to the serious business of death and mayhem Rho -who is Dutch- [ July 02, 2001: Message edited by: Rhodan ]

My being a faily new hand at simulated warefare can just emagine the surprise of a human "general" when one of the most suppresed units on the field surpasses all expectations and wins himself a medal. Well this I say because from previous experiance and some gaming expeiance, a tank crew out of his domain is worse than a fish out of water (the later can get back in most times) because if he stays in there he becomes a hot and crispy fry-ling, geting out just makes him a fast duck (the Afgans liked killing rusian Tank crews either way!!!). Now then the sim is as perfect and easy to learn as anything out there but as in true warefare the master is one that lisens to his "men" and leans from all those whispers and agonising screams.
