Really enjoying the game so far, lots to learn though!
Would appreciate some pointers if people have the knowledge.

First question is what do you do when you have a credit deficit? I.e how do you make money?

Raising taxes is the obvious one but I suspect the longer term answer is growing your private economy somehow?

Second question relates to building more SHQs. Is there a point where it becomes beneficial to build another SHQ? Are there any indicators to look for that will let a player know when it's time to consider this?

Thanks all.

I'm interested in knowing the answer to the first one as well, I can't figure that out. In my current game I just sell a lot of rare earth minerals to make money.

For the second question I have a little insight. I just conquered a third zone, and it wouldn't let me link that zone the my 1st SHQ for whatever reason. So I had to make a second. Now I'm having trouble transferring stuff from the 1st to the 2nd because it says there is no logistics link between the two. They have a road between them, but I think I need a supply depot in between or something to link the two zones.

About the first question, yes, its very important to help the private sector, you can do it by strategrams (fat merchant, ambitious investor, etc) or by increasing the public budget of the zone, by doing so, when the zone has enough private money + public savings, they build a new private asset, which improves the QoL of the citizens and some of them provide you with resources and money.

MC456 -> RE: Making money and the 2nd SHQ (6/6/2020 9:38:06 PM)

As Clux said you gotta spend money to make money. Boost the budget for better development (long term) and use what Stratagems you have to either add more private assets or request credits from other regimes.
But the main way you'll be making credits is through trade. Sell the resources you have an abundance. You may notice that also happens automatically if you hit max storage (and you can see it in the treasury report), but only if traders are willing to buy it (sometimes there is too much supply and something like food or water can be worthless). There are also hex perks that give +100 credits per turn.

And don't be afraid to lower the salary of your workers if you have to. Just keep an eye on their happiness score. If you drop it too much their happiness will get nuked.

2nd SHQ if you have zones really far apart. Just make sure they're linked by rail. The reason for making additional SHQs is to cut down on logistics use for huge zones. Remember that all your resource generators (like mines and farms) still need to use logistics to deliver to their parent SHQs. So the closer, the better.

Thanks guys, that's some really useful info.
Been playing for a good few hours today so I had a few questions on my mind!

I wouldn't build more than one SHQ unless you absolutely have to. It increases the amount of work you have to do as a player, and it's only really necessary if your empire is so large that you can't sufficiently supply everybody in the farthest reaches. I think you're better off building more logistics. This isn't always possible however, and will depend on the planet.

AttuWatcher -> RE: Making money and the 2nd SHQ (6/7/2020 3:31:16 AM)

Get the economic council early and put a lot of research into "Economic Policies" that will generate many different economic stratagems, and more of them, and you will be able to manage your money pretty well with those alone unless you have some more complicated issue going on.

I did exactly that and after about 12 rounds I've had zero problems with money. I have so much cash I can really throw it around, probably in more ways than I'm even aware of right now.
