Leslac -> Minor protectorates and how to get rid of them? (6/11/2020 1:57:08 AM)

So I made a minor a protectorate pretty early on because I decided not to go that way, but to have a nice and peaceful border and be able to react to any major incursions. So far so good.

But now I've explored most of the area around me and can see that the minor is surrounded on all sides by other minors or unclaimed land. So here's me thinking I'll just gobble them up - price of attacking them 8d10 happiness damage, 4d10 loyalty damage, 4d10 political damage [X(]

What does all this mean? I guess happiness damage is to my cities? Loyalty is that underlying factor that happiness gravitates towards? What's political damage?

And is there some way to either increase relations and end up incorporating minors in your nation? Or reduce relations and actually be able to attack without borking your own nation? And how would I go about doing that?

I have several options for dealing with majors, but only two with minors - peace and protectorate (and obviously invading).

Well you ignore it and get around and wait his neighbor get gobbled by a rival major, and then once ai declare war on it you get the full land and unit.

The best to attack a friend is to use covert ops, though I have not explored that system in great detail yet.

There's currently no direct way to reduce Minor Regime relations so you can easily invade. I made a suggestion a few days back to add something and Vic said he's added it to his list of things to consider adding.

Right now, unless there's a strong chance the Minor will be invaded by another Major, I'd recommend you don't vassalise them as they contribute very little. If they're friendly enough not to attack then you can usually keep them sweet without that treaty, and later you can push their borders back to their city to force them to attack you.

Thanks for the replies, I've arrived at much the same conclusion. Don't use the minor protectorate in the beginning of the game... Maybe this ability shouldn't be so easily reachable? Maybe lock it behind f.ex. democracy or heart 50/60.

And up the political price by a factor of 10-20, as of right now it costs me 2 points to use, so it's really easy just to fire it off early-game thinking "I'll deal with this one later" - and then you find there's nothing to do...

I'll have a look at "assassinate leader", maybe that can be used against a minor?

Also I still don't know what "political damage" is? Damage to your word score? Damage to your PP income?

I have this on my to-do list. I have a nifty idea :)
