Those of us in the states are used to using Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. On planet creation it just doesn't click and is hard to get my head around and it's difficult to do mental conversions. Be nice if there was an option in game.

As an example when I see 40 Celsius I'm thinking..."That looks okay if a bit cold..." when actually that's 104 degrees Fahrenheit and is wasteland desert conditions.

You mean that unit that is defined as "take celisiums and mess up the value with a useless Transformation"?
Well, I guess he has to for Internationalsiation.

If possible, this should show both values - with the less wanted one in brackets.
Otherwise people will be showing us a 40°F Screenshoot and we do not notice it, thinking that is a Desert.

Well it's not useless to us in the states as everything is measured by Fahrenheit here. It's the same with meter/feet. Our cars have miles per hour on our speedometer, not meters per hour. So if you've used that method alll your life you can't just mentally convert everything on the fly. It would be funny however if one morning everyone woke up and was greeted with speed limit signs in metric. We;re taught the system in school along with spanish and both are soon forgotten.

Makes me feel bad for you americans the odd one out there haha, littel pointer for now till they implement it, or u guys get a civilized system of measurment:

Celsius is SUPER easy 0 is freezing point of water, -20 would be very cold, +20 would be pretty warm +40 is scorching -40 is exctremly cold.

I don't think the question is which scale is superior, or how easy it is to learn to intuit a new way of measuring things. The question is what leads to the best gameplay experience for the end user.

If Vic wants to make the game more fun and understandable for his American playerbase, then adding a setting to convert decimal points from periods to commas, and to convert temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit, would help accomplish that goal.

I'd really recommend having it be a preferences setting though, rather than displaying both temperatures on every display. UI real-estate is important.

Guess how all those values are defined?
Foot: "Since the International Yard and Pound Agreement of 1959, one foot is defined as 0.3048 meter exactly."
Pound: "Various definitions have been used; the most common today is the international avoirdupois pound, which is legally defined as exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, and which is divided into 16 avoirdupois ounces"
You guys have been on the metric system over half a century, just with those wierd and unwieldy multipliers [:)]

The plus side is, it is relatiely easy to just measure/store/process in metric, and apply the conversion during output.

I blame it on King James, who one night while drinking stuck out his foot with the sore toe and said, "that's a foot." Later after much drinking he pulled down his pants, "That's an inch" and we've been stuck with the crap ever since.

Seriously, localization is pretty standard and the most inclusive. I wish the community could port text to other languages--and correct the English.

We were talking about units of measurement, not languages.

Languages are their own kind of mess.

Use this as an opportunity to learn how the rest of the world uses measurements. If the conversion isn't too difficult. F = C x 1.8 + 32. So 30C would equal 86F.

Even easier (for my brain anyway) is to just reduce the Celsius temp by 20% rather than multiply by 1.8. For example, if I were converting in my head 19C, I would take 1.9 (10% of 19) and double it to 4 (because I'm doing it my head, I'm making the math easy and rounding) and subtract 4 from 19 to 15. Then to find Fahrenheit, it's as simple as 19 + 15 + 32 = 66F.

Hope this helps. As an American, I encourage you to learn how the other 95% of the world measures things. Frankly, it's both a better way and an easier way of measuring things.

As an American that lived overseas for many years, I don't think that the celsius stuff is that complicated--for game purposes you don't have to know exact degree gradations. Just remember that 0* celsius is freezing, and 38* celsius is 100* fahrenheit. Everything between can be extrapolated/estimated.

If you do want more precise degree figures, just add 32 plus [18 per 10* celsius] to get the fahrenheit temperature. In other words, 10* celsius is 50* fahrenheit (32 + 18).

If nothing else because it will rain speeding fines for those that don't, or car crashes for the unlucky ones.

Don't they have speedometers that have both a kmh and a mph scale? I mean, it is not like having two scales is hard or anything.
