Justus2 -> Replace Equipment and XP (6/14/2020 2:33:39 PM)

I would like to see a change in how replacement equipment works. With infantry, its relatively straight-forward, you 'upgrade' from Soldier II to Soldier III, and the existing troops keep their experience. With vehicles/equipment, the way it's described is you replace the equipment (Tank II for Tank I), with the old equipment going back into the SHQ to be re-issued, but I assumed the existing soldiers (crews) with their XP would remain in the unit, and the old equipment would go back to the SHQ to be manned by new green recruits. However, that's not the case (or I'm doing something wrong). I get the new equipment in my unit with green 0xp or 20xp troops, and my 60xp veteran troops go back to the SHQ with my old equipment.

I would like to see the new equipment go to my unit, but keep the XP of the existing unit, and the old equipment go back to the SHQ to be manned by green troops. If not, there's really no point to 'replacing' equipment, just create a new unit with the new equipment, and your veterans are always stuck with Buggy Is...

In the game, there is no storage for gear. A Unit is the Equipment and the Soldiers manning them, in one indivisible package.
Any equipment a new unit needs, is produced on demand by stored IP and material.

I agree it would be better if the old gear was given to green troops and at least some experience kept, but that would mean Replacement is limited to availible recruits.
Or maybe we could at least get "upgrade" if we did not change the equipment, only refine the Design values?

Ideally, we should jsut be allowed to upgrade the tank.

The M1 Abrahams:
Was changed from the "M68A1 105 mm rifled tank gun" to the "M256A1 120 mm smoothbore gun".
It's armor was changed from Cobham to Depleted Uranium, at a massive increase in weight.
And the engine is not save from Upgrades either, once they got a replacement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Abrams#Mobility

With the other upgrades being improoved sensors and com systems - wich could fall under linear technologies, one time unlocks or even just a higher design roll.
And they are still at it, until they get a completely new line:
