VoodooDog -> how would i go about in securing the south of my country here? (6/21/2020 12:10:46 PM)

is there any way in setting up an outpost down there and putting some troops in it or do i have to found a city or how would i do it?

i know its mostly nothing down there, but iam still interested in how to best defend this kind of situation before it gets captured.

First ask yourself if the area's valuable, or if it's better to shorten the defense lines and defend from the Calos Heights.

Second, you need to extent the logistics system to where it needs to go. There's a road running through the left side hexes, but another regime has claimed a hex along the road. You either need to claim that hex or build a road around it (standard key is 'R' for road and rail construction). Given the short distance I do not expect you need to build a Supply Depot or Truck Station out on the hex to facilitate longer range transportation.

If your logistics reaches far enough, including unit organic supply, you can station units there. And with roads or flat terrain, organic supply rolls pretty far.

first point isnt valid, i already explained that.
thanks anyways.

so thats it, i just make sure enough logistical points coming to the troops and iam good?
would imagine sitting down there year after year might lower their moral or something :D

All you need is the logistics points, yes.

I'd expect that in the background there is a fair bit of churn with soldiers sent to the far end of nowhere for a stint on the border and returning, but it's not interesting to play out. And frankly? Boring or not, lots of soldiers understand that boring assignments may be boring, but exciting assignments are unhealthy.

ramnblam -> RE: how would i go about in securing the south of my country here? (6/21/2020 2:06:11 PM)

For logistics to reach down there you will need to probably build another truck station or two (probably wanting make new cities aswell). What limits you in this situation is having enough troops and resources to sufficiently accomplish the task which could be spent elsewhere and be lot more useful.

a truck station needs workers, right?
i already have so much more jobs than workers :D

ramnblam -> RE: how would i go about in securing the south of my country here? (6/21/2020 3:53:07 PM)

Yeah and fuel, plus the troops to defend the cities and borders because if you get cut off you're ****ed and if they take your city well you double ****ed.

Hazard151 -> RE: how would i go about in securing the south of my country here? (6/21/2020 4:23:25 PM)

11 hexes?

A truck station level 1 can cover that on its own even over dirt roads, at most he needs a supply depot to boost the range

VoodooDog -> RE: how would i go about in securing the south of my country here? (6/21/2020 4:35:20 PM)

the supply depot is build at the position of the truck station (in this case, my capitol), right?

Hazard151 -> RE: how would i go about in securing the south of my country here? (6/21/2020 4:41:20 PM)

No, supply depots cannot be build in cities. They are one of, if not outright the, only structures that can't be build inside a city.

It needs to be build anywhere along the route, most effective way of getting it what you want to do is to build it 1 hex outside the city on the route you want to service.

That said, I don't think it's needed so long as you connect the road. And if you don't connect the road it won't help.

Asuming that borders is not shown because they are hostile to you, it is already protected! Majors and Minors with Peace deals will repsect your borders, and you theirs.

As other posters said, that region does not seem particulary valuable. The only value of that region, is future expansion potential. Particulary vs Orange. A Hex Perk is visible and a fork in the road indicates there are possibly 2 cities you can reach from there.
But as you seem to insist:
The only thing that can protect you from other nations troops gobling up your terrain, is your troops. Wich I guess are in rather short supply right now.
A city would only help with Admin Strain. It requires protection, it does not grant it.

Supplying troops down there would be a bit of a hassle too. As that one road hex does not belong to you, Supply has to make a sidestep over (high?) mountains and some plains.
But it is also near the end of any normal supply lines. Even a supply base and ideal condtions can only get you that small bit furter.

So to summarize in brief:

Unless a war breaks out your borders should be respected.

If you do want to station troops in that area preparatory to war you will need a fair number of units to cover the whole supply line.

To station troops in that area you will need better logistics.

The area is well within logistics range of your city but the road is cut off. You need to build some new roads either around where the cutoff is through the mountains or all the way from your city around the east side of the Calos Heights mountain range to link up just south of the cutoff.

Depending on if you've nationalized your starting truck station to improve its range yet or not you might need to build a Supply Base on the road to improve your logistics range. (I would look at your logistics preview once you get the road built/fixed and build the Supply Base on the last hex before the number of logistics points starts to drop off.)

Currently supply bases have their full effect, anywhere on the line. Including the same hex (for in-the-wild Truckstops) or just 1 hex outside the city.

Oh wow yeah. It's because logistics points carry their starting movement points and supply base movement points totally separately right?

And here I've been trying to spread my rest stops out as much as possible like a fool lol. Good to know, thanks!

Hopefully Vic will get around fixing that. Or revise the entire idea.

Just imagine the supply stations as handing out a few jerrycans of fuel the truck drivers take along and use whenever necessary. So earlier isn't a problem. But later is a problem I think, as the logistics have already dropped by then, so while the drivers that are left get new 'AP' the whole line doesn't get the full effect compared to putting them somewhere earlier.
But I have to say I never tried putting them in locations where logistics already started dropping. But it would certainly be weird if it went up again.
So basically, I don't know what you mean, zgrssd, when you say 'anywhere on the line', but I assume it's like I typed here.

@zgrssd just above here: In my opinion the current implementation is actually a very nice way to do it. Man imagine the micro and headaches when every truck would have to have lost 50 AP before a Supply Station helped. And you having 5 cities with trucks from lots of different stations. No, that would be very painful. It's good as it is now imo. Way less issues. And just literally giving the trucks some extra supplies (like the name implies) for the ride.

What if Supply bases just topped up the AP of trucks? That way you know that any of the trucks that make it to a given supply base will be able to continue from there a certain distance (not dependent on how they got there).

If the trucks are running efficiently it doesn't make any sense that they have room for extra supplies early in their trip.

EDIT: I suggest we move further discussions of the fine points of the logistics system over to the "Suggestions and Feedback >> Supply Bases are... not what I expected" thread. :)
