nedjh2 -> Population hunger in new colonies? (6/22/2020 4:31:31 PM)

I'm really struggling with this. I've built food depots and farms in two colonies but hunger just skyrockets and sits at 300. My workers have no hunger at all, but the private pops aren't getting any of the food.

Is this something to do with private investment? Are the pops not able to buy the food or something? I upped the private investment in one of the colonies and it hasn't had any effect yet. Any advice?

Have you activated "Allow Emergency Food" in your new Zone?

Private citizens only buy food from private farms, not public ones.
As a stop gap measure, you could enable emergency food distribution to prevent the population from starving (by giving them public food for free basically).
Over time they should invest in a private farm to solve their food issues, but it might take a while. I don't really know how the private sector decides what to build next.

I wasn't aware of the Emergency Food, thanks guys.

Generally population eats private food, produced by private farms.
After that, they take emergency food
After that, they buy food using private credits
After that, maybe teh Governors Suvivial skill is used.
After that, they starve.

New colonies do not have private farms and it takes 1k private credit to build one. That seems like kind of an oversight.

It sure would be nice if we could convert public government owned resources to private ones, a reverse nationalize if you will. Then we could make a farm and give it to them.

Or if they could jsut start with a farm. Make it cost 1k credits to offset it.

In my experience they go for a farm first 100% of the time.

A clunky workaround is to call up the governor, set the public investment to 1000 for a turn to kick off private construction, the call them again to dial it back down.

Better hope the governor isn't corrupt though, lol.

But for sure, a "privatize asset" strategem makes a ton of sense. Put it somewhere in the commerce values line of cards.

Yeah, the first thing any private economy does is found a farm in my experience, guaranteed. You can speed up the process by either playing the private investment card or dumping money into the public budget, as stated, which is probably a good idea anyways because the private economy takes a while to pick up when their assets and thus income is low.

Eventually? Yes. But getting the money to them is the problem

I could never set it anywhere close to 1000/turn. And honestly, I am not sure it works anyway. I should have been able to notice a ~40 extra income, even if it was missing from a log. But nope.
