BHughes -> New Scenario for testing: Falklands War 1-2 May 1982 (6/25/2020 4:07:36 PM)

UPDATED 13 July 20.

Updated version of the scenario fixing lots of little bugs and increased use of LUA to provide more consistent air tasking for Argentine units (I've not updated the Stanley airport facility locations as I didn't feel it made a significant difference to the gameplay. Maybe in the next edit)

Enjoy and let me know if you have feedback

FURTHER UPDATE (14/7) - annoying spam messages for neutral airports removed - this may affect the ability to use them as emergency divert airfields for the Black Buck 1 mission aircraft.

Hi there, new south Atlantic War scenario (for CMANO).

It's an attempt to recreate the critical first two days of hostilities on 1-2 May 1982 and is complex and (I hope), realistic with the player facing the same key decisions.

Feedback and comments welcome - especially on the balance of the scoring.

Working on a version now for the Argentine side.

Cheers

Brendan

Slight alignment error of a prominent location of this mission.
Can correct it myself of course, but fiddling with the editor of the opposing/enemy side may spoil the whole mission.

+1 for the detailed briefing.

Thanks - other than knowing the alignment and length of the runway at Stanley, I had little to work with in terms of the facilities. The image is really helpful, I'll have a play with the positioning.

If you are not familiar with the GMAP overlay technique i help you out with lat/long data:

Stanley Runway, direction 09/27 (middle of the RW) = 51 41 09 W57 46 39
Control Tower = S51 41 15 W57 46 44
Airport Terminal = Control Tower
A/C Tarmac Space (4x Large Air) = S51 41 14 W57 46 50
Runway 09/27 Access Point = S51 41 10 W57 46 58

(all data in degree minute second)

This looks amazing BHughes!

You've clearly put a ton of work into this, and I'm impressed by the result.

The briefing makes mention of SSN patrol boxes, but I can't find their boundaries on the map or in the briefing. Is that intentional?

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed!

The SSN patrol area boundaries are marked by the 'no navigation zones' which show up as red lines extending East-West and North -South from the centre of the TEZ. These are the historically correct patrol areas assigned by FOSM to the three SSNs over this time period. I'll make this clearer in the briefing (actually I did wonder if I ought to do this)

I adopted the NNZ method mainly to prevent the AI in the Argentine-side version from moving the subs into each SSN's AO - something that should not happen in reality...although interestingly, both the COs of Spartan and Splendid did later admit to trespassing into one another's areas. With no other SSNs other than UK in the whole AO they felt confident to do so.

Scenario updated to fix minor bugs and improve AI performance - see original post for new ZIP file.
