This thread is inspired by Ms. Wargamer's excellent post with a fantastic map of the Roman empire. It seems like an enormously useful resource for wargaming the Ancient period. So it got me thinking about what other good resources are out there for wargamers to utilize in wargame creation or modding. What are some of your favorite websites that you use when designing or modding wargames? I generally play WWII games so some of my favorite resources are the following, however, feel free to post resources for any time period or genre: 1) http://niehorster.org/ - This site has a lot of reasonably detailed orders of battle for various combatants in WW2. Virtually indispensable for designing WW2 units and armies. 2) http://wp.scn.ru/ - For drawings of warplanes that I can use for game art or to even design my own art I find this website an excellent resource, especially for different variants of the same models. 3) https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ - Another good art resource with lots of drawings of tanks and their variants. 4) https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/fantasy-surnames.php - If you're looking for fictitious names for a game or scenario, this is a good resource. It generates 10 at a time and you can create some long lists from it. 5) https://www.random.org/ - If you need to generate a random list of numbers for any reason, this is a good site for it. One thing I get of it is to randomize the order in alphabetized lists. So, for example, if I want to mix up a list of names that are in alphabetical order, I generate a random list of numbers from this website, then plug it into MS Excel and sort according to numerical order instead of alphabetical. 6) https://www.westpoint.edu/academics/academic-departments/history/atlases - For WWII maps, I often use this website (in conjunction with the Niehorster site) to construct accurate orders for historic locations. I am interested in what your favorite sites are.
