PaxMondo -> DISPERSED!!! (6/27/2020 9:37:49 PM)

Running through Andy's Endgame Scenario (Downfall), and I am seeing more of this than I ever have. In the first few turns I've had 11 units disperse …. wow!!!

I guess this is normal for everyone … don't hear about this in AAR's … so didn't know.

I have seen numbers of units disperse where they have been ground down and were low on experience, morale and good leadership. There are usually two dispersal messages per unit - the first seems to be a temporary dispersal (a rout they might recover from) while the second is elimination of the unit from ever becoming combat effective again. The two messages usually happen back-to-back, but if the first dispersal is from something like a small part of a unit unloaded amphibiously, there is only one message and when the rest of the unit lands the dispersed troops seem to be back in the ranks.

is germane to the dispersal situation.

Yes, it happens quite a lot, especially with surrounded poorly experienced low morale late war IJA troopers.

I had always thought there was some subtle difference that resulted in the Wiped Out By Attrition message vs the Unit Disperses message. The former I picture as all troops in the unit dead or surrendered/captured. The latter I pictured as troops running into heavy cover and subsisting on the land until the war is over or friendly forces take back the hex. Not that it makes much difference in the end.

Yeah, these are units not surrounded, just giving up the war entirely. 3 more the most recent turn … I think 15 total now. 1 was an entire ID.
