Jorge_Stanbury -> Are buggies overpowering? (7/2/2020 5:20:58 PM)

I am playing early game, against militias mostly

I noticed buggies are really great, too good maybe? they have no issue taking on any form of enemy, but what really surprised me was the really low casualties. I haven't lost more than a few and as you know that 5mm armor shouldn't be too protective

thoughts?

5 MM is good against small arms fire which is all local forces usually have.

First, please specify wich game version you are talking about:
Do you mean 1.04?
Or 1.04beta1, where the callibre modifier is now finally working, but buggies are limited to 50mm?

Because both are very different games. Also, give that the callibre modifier is now actually working, we may see a overall drop in Vehicle HP numbers.

1.04
and a game that started in 1.03 ; that map is too good to change

good to know about the 50mm limit; I mean how can you put so much armor on a buggy
that said, I was already building at minimal 5mm armor because fuel consumption was too much and at least against militia raiders there were minimal losses

EDIT: I just downloaded 1.04 beta2; will see how it goes

Soar_Slitherine -> RE: Are buggies overpowering? (7/3/2020 3:07:21 AM)

Being vehicles with armor, buggies are considered hard targets, which benefits their survivability early on even without extra armor thickness since infantry with small arms have a low hard attack value.

Buggies in 1.04 are definitely not 'op'; good for scouting however.

I'd prefer a nerf to side skirts rather than dropping HP outright.

Either way, free folk and minors should have more RPG's

I think buggies should have a maximum engine size to "medium"

therefore you have to pick between either a fast, but low armored buggy or a slow, well armored one

You ought to have a file related to the last planet generated in your savegames folder

The basic values for models and parts are part of the savegame. Planet creation Savegame included.
As are a whole host of other things, wich makes the scenario version very important for bug reports.

So that would change exactly nothing [;)]

So if I got it right

you need a full restart with the new beta, and loading from "last planet generated" won't set all beta fixes, right?

That's correct. Also buggies do not feel overpowered to me.

The Patchnotes - both live and beta - are full of "* need a new Savegame to apply" entries. The stuff is propably comming from the "randomscenario.se1" 'savegame' that all games are started from.

buggies become extremely fragile after the first 20 turns or so. 5mm is simply too little armor after a certain point. Their main use in combat in my experience is a form of encirclement. Since a combat unit doesn't need much strength to resist an enemy's retreat, you can just use them to plug up a hole to allow for a complete envelopment of enemy forces.

You can Buggies up to 50mm armor in the beta. That is enough to give some penalties to 20mm small arms.

Pratapon51 -> RE: Are buggies overpowering? (7/15/2020 10:00:41 AM)

I find independent recon buggy battalions really useful for driving away marauders and xenofauna as both are soft targets prone to encroaching on borders and supply lines.

gmsitton -> RE: Are buggies overpowering? (7/22/2020 12:27:35 AM)

I just noticed that buggies with triple laser assault rifles have firepower of 1000. Have to try that out.
