Upsize Starship artifact

Hi, I'm new here... Can any of you give me any pointers? I can't seem to work out how to use the 'Upsize Starship' artifact. It is grayed out while on a starship or on a planet. Thanks.

The artifact has to be aboard the starship you want to upsize. Take that starship over one of your worlds and use it then. Just go to the starship's artifacts menu and select the button. Note that you can shift-click each artifact entry to find out how to use it.
