It appears that units in Reserve status can not be combined. Is that the intention?

Is there any way for naval units, other than carriers to attack submarines?

Can Allied submarines interdict supplies bound for Africa?

Do any of the advancements help with convoy escorts?

#1 garrison status units can't combine. That is correct. These are crappy organized barely holding together incomplete units only good for defensive actions.

#2 If the sub and it's 6 hexes around it are not all ocean. Escorts attack subs. You can have up to 10 in a convoy lane.

#3 sure. Sit within 5 hexes of one of their ports. Planes 10 hexes. A bomber in Malta will interdict supplies.

#4 Yes, the one that says "Convoy Escort".

You want to invest heavy in convoy escort and at least buy 1 a turn till you have 40 or so. The maximum escorts effectiveness in a lane is 10 escorts. you want to fill the lanes. A good German player will fill their shipyards with subs, strategically place them in different zones to spread out your escorts. Use oilers to resupply subs.

I have 11 in one of my games until mid 1943. The Allied player didn't invest in technology or escorts enough and I crippled his convoys badly.

Remember as the Allies you are playing the long game. You dump as much as you can into Russia vs an invasion. They need it. Your ship yards should be constantly filled when Germany is finally at war with Russia. merchants, transports, escorts, landing craft. You will need a lot.

I believe I have been able to combine garrison units. But both have to be in garrison state. I will have to check this to be sure since I haven't tried it in some time.

Assume Alvaro you meant fleets if in 6 hexes of land.

Does Detection skill help Escorts or only the Escort skill? Does detection skill effect CV's ability to find and strike subs?
And, what does Detection skill help? Just Air units specifically built as detection?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Questions (7/17/2020 12:15:03 PM)

It's probably right on garrisoned units combining. So many rules even I forget sometimes

No subs are the 6 hexes AROUND it have to be all ocean so they can't be attacked. If they are next to or on a non-ocean tile surface ships can attack

Detection and Electronics helps planes equipped with anti-submarine advancement - airplane tech

Convoy Escort helps escorts - ship tech.

I moved a Russian sub into the Baltic. It was out of air range of the Germans. The Germans sailed their fleet out and attacked it. Wiped it out in one turn. I have never been able to attack subs with my fleets. How did the Germans do it?

Thanks

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Questions (7/18/2020 1:01:15 AM)

air power

Cigar King -> RE: Questions (7/20/2020 1:15:10 AM)

I thought I checked and it was only German Navy. It's possible I had the sub on fleet mode instead of raider though.

Cigar King -> RE: Questions (7/20/2020 1:18:33 AM)

One other thing I have noticed is that the computer player does not seem to use air supply. At least I have not seen it. If you do surround units, and they don't get relived they're easy pickings. Of course, I am not sure that the transport planes exist, but, most of the major powers start with at least one.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Questions (7/20/2020 2:21:10 PM)

I probably forgot then
