Hey just wondering what steps I need to take to change the area ID of the Kurile islands to General defense, so I can relocate restricted units to defend the Kuriles. Ive seen this done before in an AAR, but cant remember how it was done. Any help appreciated.

You can click on a location (in this case, each island in the Kuriles chain) and change the command just like an LCU. In the Mod I'm currently playing they are assigned to the 5th Fleet (R).

However... not sure how changing the location's HQs lets you move a restricted unit there. If the unit is restricted you're not going to be able to load it on a ship, regardless of the destination's HQ. You may be able to fly it in but will quickly run into load issues for any unit with any sort of heavy equipment.

I may be missing something but over 10 years of games I've almost never changed a location's HQ. Perhaps someone wiser on this aspect of the game can comment on when and why you might want to do that.

Move a smallish unit there, like engineers...I think but can't remember if they need to have AV. If I do it, I have used IJNAF Aviation Base forces with 9 AV.

Switch the unit to the command you want to convert the base to using PP.

Switch the base to the proper command using PP.

You will be able to fly in troops under the same HQ now.

The less built up the base, the less PP cost.

By changing the locations HQ to American, you can make PT Boats there.

By changing the location to a restricted command, you can then send units (including air units) there. But the ground units will have to be air lifted.

Thanks for the help, and yes I was aware that I would need to air lift in any troops I would station there. I mainly wanted to change the Base HQ so I could move restricted air units there like the restricted H6K1s that start in the home islands.
