Then in the Moscow sector Operation Typhoon started a month early with a Panzer breakthrough towards Moscow. The Soviet Army did very poorly, out of the 21 German attacks in the breakthrough area (17 Hasty and 4 Deliberate) there was only two Held by the Soviet Army. Then all available units were placed in defensive positions west of Moscow to slow the German advance towards Moscow, the defense of Moscow in Stavka's highest priority.
