Jorge_Stanbury -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/29/2020 11:29:46 PM)

a lot of hyperbole on that link

the only news: "Pentagon UFO unit to publicly release some findings"... the rest is just conjectures from some crazy dude

pmelheck1 -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 12:29:09 AM)

release some findings...

" We........ ahhhhh didn't find anything.... wasted tax payer money looking for something not out there."

Shellshock -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 12:31:23 AM)

Meh. I'd rather watch The Thing.

Anything that is flying that can't be identified is a UFO. So think of just how many people see every day.

True. But how often do you get reports from US aircraft carriers like the USS Nimitz? With experienced Naval pilots not only recording the 'UAP's, registering the objects on different technological platforms, but also stating they visually eye-balled the objects? [8|]

I'm not a UFO nut. Just find the latest two videos to surface pretty interesting ...

RangerJoe -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 2:15:12 AM)

Well, considering that there were two squadrons of F-117s that the rest of the Air Force knew nothing about, who knows if they did not see something secret yet man made.

Jorge_Stanbury -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 2:19:19 AM)

This is an interesting (but long) interview with one the pilots
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eco2s3-0zsQ

I have no issue with what the pilot guy says and explains, on what he saw and experienced

but then there is this second guy that pretty much destroys any credibility by interpreting that this was an Alien. This is my issue with the UFO nuts; there are strange things that we don't understand, but then they try to push it into their nonsense, based on half truths, "maybe" statements, and all kind of scams and fraudsters

Dante Fierro -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 2:22:50 AM)

Yes, the Joe Rogan interview. I watched that interview. It's hard to believe the pilot made it all up. But I'm not any kind of UFO expert, or know anything about what it takes to become a pilot on a US aircraft carrier. Other than I imagine these guys are obviously pretty well trained.

RangerJoe -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 2:47:39 AM)

Just because people are trained does not mean that they have common sense. In fact, the more trained that they are, the less common sense that they have. Even/especially those with advanced technical training.

Jorge_Stanbury -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 2:51:08 AM)

Yes but once you have sensors locked on "something" it is hard to question the fact that something was there. This was not an old camera or some doctored video, but the sensors of an F-18

that said, we don't know, nobody knows, what was this "something" they got

Dante Fierro -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 3:03:35 AM)

quote:

Agree, 'Don't know'. But that works both ways: you can't immediately assume it has off-world origin, but you can't also immediately assume it doesn't.

I really didn't follow Ufology too much until these two videos surfaced a few months ago, along with the corroborated naval pilot testimonies. Now it seems like they say they got material and other footage. So ... I don't know. Some people think this is some kind of military propaganda campaign so Americans will be gung-ho on funding the Space Marines project. I'm not sure if I buy into that line of thinking - I mean, congress and POTUS pretty much gives the pentagon whatever they want these days. Why concoct some wild UFO story??

Rob322 -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 3:04:47 AM)

UFO is the perfect acronym. Unidentified Flying Object. The first word is key, Unidentified. That doesn't mean intelligent life from another planet or dimension or what have you, it means the observer could not successfully identify what they saw. I'll bet even trained pilots can't immediately ID everything they might possibly encounter in the air down to the make and model number. It's fun to believe in aliens and I'm not saying it isn't but there are easier answers out there.

Dante Fierro -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 3:17:40 AM)

quote:

Sure. But this appears to be taken more serious than normal (at least by the DoD). And if you listen to the Joe Rogan interview of the Naval pilot, this 'UAP' performed aerial maneuvers that should not be possible given known US technology. And also had other features that do not match any known technology.

So, what is a reasonable explanation for what was tracked by several different platforms of tracking technologies on the USS Nimitz (and fighters themselves), was visually acquired by a veteran US aircraft carrier pilot, and of which more than one video footage was obtained?

Coupled again with the DoD now announcing they have off-world material. Which sounds like a storyline from Independence Day the movie or Arrival.

Oldy but a goody:

The "USO"

Dante Fierro -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 4:09:40 AM)

Could do without the ridicule Ian R.

The story was published in the New York Times and confirmed by the DoD.

Ian R -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 5:51:25 AM)

It is not ridicule Dante.

Did you read the NYT piece, or just watch the video? The article speaks of "the possible existence of retrieved materials from U.F.O.s." - a matter of conjecture. Nowhere does anyone say "DoD now announcing they have off-world material". Further, the two reporters in their previous articles (including one about a week ago) reported on some guy who said "he believed" and another fellow who said "he concluded" certain things. Neither is a statement of fact. A closer reading of what the ex-subcontractor allegedly says, is that he saw some material he didn't recognise that he thought might not be from earth. All that the DOD has confirmed is that they will make an announcement of some sort of "findings" that some committee has reached.

The video you posted exaggerates the nature of what was said and adds some hype. Please apply Occam's razor to this.

Ian R -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 6:00:09 AM)

Dante, here is the 23 July NYT article:

July 23 article

And please note the correction:

quote:

Correction: July 24, 2020

An earlier version of this article inaccurately rendered remarks attributed to Harry Reid, the retired Senate majority leader from Nevada. Mr. Reid said he believed that crashes of objects of unknown origin may have occurred and that retrieved materials should be studied; he did not say that crashes had occurred and that retrieved materials had been studied secretly for decades. An earlier version also misstated the frequency with which the director of national intelligence is supposed to report on unidentified aerial phenomena. It is 180 days after enactment of the intelligence authorization act, not every six months.

If you want anyone here to give you a serious response, choose a reputable source. Not this guy!

Dante Fierro -> RE: OT: UFO Bombshell: US Government Has Wreckage Material (7/30/2020 6:26:02 AM)

Ian R your analysis is poor and incomplete. You fail to address other important facts that were brought up. You focus on one single point - that fails to disqualify the rest of the facts, and then you substitute ridicule (more than once) - thinking this somehow validates you further.

Furthermore, I'm not here advocating for 'alien' UFOs. No one is. The point is, no one knows at the moment. There are many different opinions and none of them can be completely ruled out, unlike what you do with your ridicule and condescension here.

You say 'apply Occam's Razor' without providing any reasonable explanations for the many elements in the case, where Occam's Razor could apply. A friend once told me: "Typically 'Skeptics' begin with their conclusions. They’re not really looking for an answer."

Man, was he right!

Bleh. I find the case curious. I'm not here with an axe to grind- unlike some posting on the thread. If you've already made up your mind fine. I've never really been into UFOs much, but find the case interesting because it does involve US Naval pilots, the USS Nimitz, and a number of corroborative stories, along with hard evidence.

along with hard evidence.

All you have given us is some third-hand extrapolation from some you-tube spruiker of second hand reports in the NYT that caused the NYT to issue an embarrassing back down and correction.

If you have any hard evidence, feel free to post it.

Ian R your analysis is poor and incomplete. You fail to address other important facts that were brought up.

What "facts", and what is the evidence for them?

Please do not waste my time by pointing to the video, or the 23 July NYT piece, before it was subsequently corrected.

Incidentally, I don't think Giorgio minds me taking the piss. Any publicity is good publicity.

quote:

Giorgio Tsoukalos Net Worth and salary: Giorgio Tsoukalos is a Swiss-born Greek writer and television personality who has a net worth of $4 million dollars. Giorgio A. Tsoukalos was born in Lucerne, Switzerland in March 1978. He graduated from Ithaca College in 1998. He worked as a bodybuilding promoter for IFCC sanctioned contests including Mr. Olympia. He is well known for the idea that ancient astronauts interacted with ancient humans. Tsoukalos was formerly the publisher of Legendary Times magazine. He serves as the director of Erich von Daniken's Center for Ancient Astronaut Research. He has appeared on many shows on The History Channel, The Travel Channel, The Sci-Fi Channel, and the National Geographic Channel. Giorgio is a consulting producer for the television series Ancient Aliens. He is the host of the H2 series In Search of Aliens. His image has been used as a meme for internet users to poke fun at his obsession with ancient astronaut theory. Users will take a nonsensical event and explain that it was caused by aliens. He is known for his "mad scientist" hair style and appearance.

NASA has off world material and has studied it and so have many other places. In fact, I read where they are returning some - to Mars!

I agree. My uncle bought a piece of moon rock.

I'm pretty sure no aliens have visited here in the last 100 million years or so. We will never send a live human to another star system, it would cost more than the GDP of the US, probably several times over. There likely will never be any form of transportation that could deliver one generation of humans to another star system, even one of the closer ones. Even if it were possible for aliens to have visited, what in the world could have justified the cost? Sending unmanned probes will almost certainly be done but it will take many generations before very interest info is returned.

Did everyone see the "picture" of two extrasolar planets?

I couldn't have picked a less credible "source" if I tried.

My girlfriend is sometimes susceptible to suggestion, if she thinks the host is attractive enough and if some effort was put into the video production quality. She might buy this.
