John Pancoast -> TAO 2 problem (8/4/2003 2:19:49 AM)

While I'm waiting for KP, decided to fire up TAO, via the download version.

Works fine, but everytime I exit the game, at the desktop, I get a general page fault error message.

I can close that fine, but then if I try to start the game again, my pc freezes.

Running Win98, directx 9.1. Maybe a DirectX problem ?

John

Hmm odd. I assume you are exiting the game rather than minimising - TAO240 doesn't minimise and restore gracefully from what I remember.

Are you seeing the splash screen ads when you exit, or do you get the crash prior to the splash screen? If you aren't seeing the splash ads I wonder if they are causing a problem for some reason.

You could try renaming these files to something else and see if the problem remains:

/Views/splash.pcx
/views/splashxx.pcx
/views/splash1x.pcx
/views/splash1.pcx

Let me know how you go.

Cheers Chris

Yep, exiting normally, and seeing the splash screens. Renaming the screens produces the same results.

Also, I notice the mouse cursor has a slight flicker at the opening game menu screen.

Maybe a video card problem ? Using a GeForce MX 2, fwiw.

Well, I suppose it is worth updating your video drivers to the very latest stable version available.

Does the page fault error message point to a particular file...eg tao2.exe or something else?

Cheers Chris

Nothing specific pointed to; just a general page fault. Strange stuff.

Game works fine except for this.
