Just noticed Battlefront's Shockforce 2 is coming to Matrix. I am likely to purchase this and a couple of DLC with my birthday coupon, however if the silly Battlefront E-licence still exists I may reconsider. Can someone
from Matrix confirm or deny if the licence will the same or like all other Matrix/Slitherine products?

It's already on Steam:

Base game - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369370/Combat_Mission_Shock_Force_2/
DLC Marines - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1379220/Combat_Mission_Shock_Force_2_Marines/
DLC British Forces - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1379221/Combat_Mission_Shock_Force_2_British_Forces/
DLC NATO Forces - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1379222/Combat_Mission_Shock_Force_2_NATO_Forces/

Um..., so why is this game coming under the aegis of Matrix/Slitherine?

It's still available on the Battlefront website for $90 at the moment: https://www.battlefront.com/shock-force-2/

Is it going to be sold on both sites simultaneously? Discontinued on www.battlefront.com ?

edit: What if someone already has the Battlefront version? Will the Matrix/Slitherine version exactly the same? What about patches? Will they be compatible with both versions?

questions, questions, questions...

Shock force 2 only? Or, is the rest coming?

Wargamer.com has an article today on the topic

This appears to be a big deal. I was active on Battlefront for a long time with Combat Mission (I *still* play CMBO quick battles) and Strategic Command. I never got into CM2 and the SC series came here to Matrix. But the fact that CM2/Shock Force series is going to be published by Matrix now indicates Battlefront may be shifting gears to focus more on game development rather than publishing? It's an interesting development. Kudos to Matrix.

MrsWargamer -> RE: Shock force 2 (8/5/2020 2:22:27 PM)

I'd be interested in a CM product if sold here the way everything here is sold.

I won't touch anything sold the way Battlefront markets product.

76mm -> RE: Shock force 2 (8/5/2020 2:51:29 PM)

Hopefully most of the regulars on the CM forum will stay there rather than migrate over here...IMHO that forum has changed over the years from a place for rather interesting discussions and debate to one intolerant of criticism of the game (although I'm referring to the CM forum in general, rather than the Shock Force 2 forum, which I never frequented). After about 20 years of visiting that forum on an almost daily basis, I stopped visiting several months ago.

Working with Matrix probably makes sense for Battlefront, given their weakness at marketing...they don't even send out e-mails to existing customers to announce the release of new games. When I asked one of the devs on their forum why they don't even send out e-mails, he said something to the effect of it being "too hard".

However, rather than interpreting this as meaning that Battlefront plans to focus on developing rather than publishing, I interpret this as meaning that they now plan to focus on government contracts for the foreseeable future and thus want to monetize their existing games to the maximum extent possible. I'm guessing that they're using Shock Force 2 as a pilot project with Matrix, and if it works out then we'll see most of the other titles as well. All just guesses, of course...

+1 BattleLady [:D]

Freyr Oakenshield -> RE: Shock force 2 (8/5/2020 10:56:33 PM)

I really appreciate the enthusiasm but I'm slightly worried about such partnerships. If there's a partnership, there might also be a dissolution of partnership in the future, which will leave us with two versions of those games*...

This has already happened with Command Ops a few years ago. Panther Games left Matrix/Slitherine and partnered with Lock n Load Publishing. The result is that we now have two versions of Command Ops -- the old Matrix version, which is unsupported, and a new Lock n Load version, which is supported... And those of us who had bought the Matrix version were, I dare to claim, left holding the bag. Many of us were forced to purchase the game again from the Lock n Load website to be able to get the new updates...

How do we know that something like that won't happen again? [:-]

*I say "those" because the more official posts that I've read about this topic imply that SF2 is just the beginning.

Greetings 76mm,
You are spot on with your comments about the Battlefront forums.
I own all the Combat Mission titles but will not sign up for the forums due to the fanboy attitudes.
I do visit the forums for updates to the various games which have been long overdue to fix bugs. Also like the hints for tactics and AARs for each title.
Here is the link for Battlefront forum for Shock Force 2 matrix/steam:

wodin -> RE: Shock force 2 (8/6/2020 11:13:29 AM)

I suppose it was sense for Battlefront to go with Slitherine who already have games on Steam.

Quite surprised but I can't see any negatives here.
