VonWulfen -> How to keep troops supplied when exploring? (8/5/2020 8:23:34 PM)

Hello all.
I am still very much in the early game (turn 5) and learning the ropes as I go.
I have sent most of my units out to explore and expand.
I am starting to lose some troops due to starvation.
How can I make sure my troops will have enough supplies each turn in order for them to continue exploring?
Should I create dedicated exploration units, and if so what units should they compose?
Is there a map overlay that shows my supply limits?
What is the best way to expand supply into the newly acquired territory?
Cheers

Roads Dirt road uses 10 ap to move supply so a dirt road 10 hexes long from supply source works sealed roads use 7 ap so 14 hexes rail is the biggy but you usually use that between cities. Two things move supplies on roads truck stops and supply depots. A truck stop adds logistics a supply depot just increases the range of logistics. There are several good threads on this in this forum.

The short answer is: Roads

Your units will supply themselves from a nearby road - I think it is 4 hex limit from the road.

The long answer is: download the latest SE manual and read chapter 4.5. This goes through the Logistics and is updated for the latest version of the game.

Map Filters sidebar -> Show Op. Log.

It shows you a estimate that uses both the supply network on roads and the Operational Logistics (Soldiers going the extra 1000 miles to get some food).

As I could literally keep exploring till I have circumnavigated the planet, I usually use the Logistics range as my main limiter of expansion - until it comes to conquest.
Grabbing land against a major, is the only thing that makes me consider building roads before then.

Exploration in Shadow Empire is not done like in a Civilization game. In a civilization-like, you can move units all around the globe because there is no supply system. In Shadow Empire, as it has been said, you need to push supplies along a road to go further.

Exploration is mostly done by spies. Send some in the minor regimes' territories, since they are bad at counter intelligence. Enough spies will reveal the minor regimes' territories and their neighbors, which become the next targets for the next batch of spies. Eventually, you can see the whole map doing so.

Yes, you are limited by your road system when exploring, especially early on. Later you can build roads to assist to explore further out.

In this game, units claim territory - your borders expand with their movement unless you are up against a major or minor you are at peace with. You can get recon using spies (covert ops strategem). You can send spies to any zone, even 'non-aligned forces' zones. 2 will guarantee visibility in the zone.
