Para87 -> Destroyed Bridge question (8/8/2020 3:25:41 PM)

In the 'Christmas War 2001' scenario for some reason my engineers cannot access some hexes that have blown bridges. They can access other destroyed bridge hexes along the same river though. I've tried various engineer units they all have full MP, full inventories and road access. I do have units in two of the destroyed hexes, the units responsible for destroying the bridge in the first place and I can drive enemy units off the destroyed bridges but can't follow on and occupy the hex. Clearly the enemy doesn't have an issue moving to the hex.

Paratroops also can't take the hex. They just disappear when disembarking.

Is it a Super River hex? Is there other terrain in the hex that may be unpassable? Do your units have Ferry and/or Major Ferry capacity? Some Engineer units may not. If you still can't figure it out, post us a screen shot so that we can further investigate. [:)]

The paratroops did not disappear--they were returned to their embarkation point and (probably) put into disorganized mode. They failed the mission / aborted landing (most likely for attempting landing in bad terrain)

Yes sorry they don't disappear. I've since noticed the AI attempting to land SF on a northern destroyed bridge hex and they too fail.

Yes it's a super river. I've tried Engineer units with Major Ferry capacity.

In the included screenshot you can see the 3 center bridges that are inaccessible. The top bridge, they must have made an attack on the center bridge as well judging by the displaced 'Tiberias' units, can be accessed by the enemy and my units can counter attack and drive them off but not access the hex. Even engineers with Major Ferry.

There are 3 or 4 destroyed bridges south of this on the same river that can be accessed by engineers

Para87 -> RE: Destroyed Bridge question (8/9/2020 10:09:31 AM)

The southern bridges. All accessible by engineers

Thanks for posting the shots. Still difficult to tell what is going on, not even sure what side you are playing but I guess the white side. These guys won't help you out:

These are the ones you want to use to get across Major Rivers. You have two types of Engineers, these that have Ferry Capacity, and those [above/previous] that can Repair. Ferry's can't Repair, and Repairer's can't Ferry [;)]

EDIT: I see only three of these units, the one pictured plus one each in the Central Command and Northern Command formations.

Para87 -> RE: Destroyed Bridge question (8/11/2020 3:41:54 PM)

Done some more testing.

Turns out some engineer units can repair bridges while others can't. Seems to be the 'engineering' special ability percentage that matters. A unit with 98% can repair the bridge but another with 57% cannot. Both have a minor ferry ability. 69% for the former and 33% for the latter.

Secondly a unit cannot enter a destroyed bridge hex if it's already occupied by another unit. Unfortunately in this scenario I've managed to find myself with destroyed bridges occupied by immobile 'fortified' units. I can't move them off so I can't get an engineer unit to access the hex. I also can't disband the unit. Only if it's forced to retreat can I get engineers onto the bridge hex and repair.

Lastly the AI hasn't attempted to repair a bridge yet 50 odd turns into the scenario. That could be AI or a bug rather than not being able to access the bridge hexes. The exception being SF that have attempted to land on the hexes but end up teleporting back to their embarkation point

Shadrach -> RE: Destroyed Bridge question (8/11/2020 10:04:15 PM)

Like sPzAbt653 said, you need a unit with the "Major Ferry" ability to enter the hex. After that other engineers should be able to also enter and help repair.

A save game of the situation at hand would help a lot.

Para87 -> RE: Destroyed Bridge question (8/12/2020 10:16:28 AM)

That doesn't seem to be case. Here's an example of an engineer unit without a 'major ferry' ability with the ability to enter a destroyed bridge hex and repair it.

As I pointed out it seems you need a percentage of 'engineering' and/or percentage 'minor ferry' ability to enter the the hex.

Anyway I'll do further testing.

MikeC317 -> RE: Destroyed Bridge question (8/24/2020 2:04:55 PM)

In my experience, engineer units that don't have enough percentage points will repair bridges over multiple turns if you don't move them and if you order them to repair the bridge on each turn.

Hellen_slith -> RE: Destroyed Bridge question (8/24/2020 3:38:50 PM)

Also, you don't necessarily need an engineer Chit to repair ....

many times I have repaired w/ an HQ unit (in CfNa) or an Infantry unit (in RGW)....
as long as they have the types of repair people in the unit, and an engineering chance,
they can repair (if they pass the check to repair)
