Belisarius -> Battle report: losses (8/5/2003 2:21:02 PM)

OK, just because it's been bugging me, I think I've found out why the casualties are exaggarated in the combat report;

Destroyed AFV's get their crew chalked up as lost. If some of them bail/survive and are then cut down, they are regarded as a new unit ("crew") and added on top of the losses already included for the AFV.

Example: A Panther is destroyed. 5 crew members escape, and 3 are then cut down (by the usual gazillion .50 cals around...). This leaves 3 losses and 2 survivors. But in the battle report, it will be summed up as 5 + 3 = 8 casualites.

Comments?

That sounds very reasonable.

But on the other hand my bigger problem occurs in a long campaign: After the last battle of that campaign, the allied losses were -15.000 men...

Isn't it? ;)

I think when the cumulated losses get over 25.600 men, it switches to - 25.600 men and counts backwards, or something like that.

Haha, I knew someone had already covered this! :D

Thanks Voriax, that thread has slipped my attention...

-15.000 losses?

So during your whole campaign, the enemy suddenly had 15.000 more troops without having brought extra to the front?

By the way shouldn't the kill count overflow at something like 32.768=2^15 , not 25.600 ? (the sixteenth bit would then denote sign, so it's two bytes total)

Surely you are right. I was just too lazy to calculate that by myself... :rolleyes: :) .

No no, it's not technical... you're just counting the "service workers" who attach themselves to military units like ticks. ;)
