Here's the current situation in China at the beginning of October 21st. When I got to look at dean's side of the conflict around a month ago now the supply situation in China was not looking good for him, and I expect it has only gotten worse after the loss of additional industry since then.

October 20th report

His BBs appear to be heading south, although they may be moving south and then west. He looks like he has a bunch of AOs sitting in Kodiak. I've ended up deciding to move the 9th Division right to Adak and then pick up the 2nd Sasebo assault Division to be moved back to Amchitka to recover and act as a rear guard. The brigade sized unit only had 44 AV left from its original 193, with most of its squads being disablements. The 9th Division should ensure that Adak is safe at least until the Allies reinforce the island again.

A few smaller straggler raids showed up afterwards which I wont bother listing.
My raids on Karachi were not very effective today and lost around 7 bombers to flak so I'm gonna stand down for a few days. The Hellens seem significantly more durable to AA fire despite having the same durability. Gonna try and upgrade most of my wings over here to the Ki-49II.

RangerJoe -> RE: RA Soulsilver (J)vs Deaniks (A) (11/10/2020 11:07:27 AM)

If you surround the troops around Chungking but not remove them, they will attempt to draw supplies from Chungking. Bombing them as well as bombarding any will also consume needed supplies from Chungking but they won't have the benefits from being in Chungking. Even fighters could bomb those units as well with little risk. Troops over the stacking limits in those hexes will only make it worse.

soulsilver -> RE: RA Soulsilver (J)vs Deaniks (A) (11/12/2020 2:14:24 PM)

October 22nd

Not a ton to report over the past 2 days, The VP ratio has slowly ticked down over the past month and a half to 3.85, so I doubt I'll get auto victory unless dean does something stupid, which might not be unlikely.

Air strikes on Karachi have been paused for a few days to allow planes to repair and pilots to rest. I'm going to continue bombing the air field tomorrow. Naval Bombardments are going in every 4 days or so, and usually deal around 1k casualties and mess up the air field sufficiently to stop fort construction for a few days. Along with air bombing his fort construction should be at a stand still. I'm ready to launch another ground assault the next time my BBs stop by to bombard. Once the Indian Theatre is over with (assuming I can Crack Karachi) things should Quite down a lot over in India. Hopefully I can end the siege within 6 months.

Most of my carriers are over in India based out of Goa, making sure Dean cannot reinforce Karachi or Bombay, and protecting my BB bombardments. The 2 Shokaku Class CVs and a CVL are based out of Paramushiro waiting to see if Dean shows up again with his CVEs and BBs at Adak. I'll try and create a map showing the disposition of my naval forces when I get the time.

October 24

Attack on Karachi went in today and It wasn't pretty, but my troops did succeed in lowering the forts to level 3. bad weather canceled the air strikes I had planned, and for some reason the BB bombardment was delayed....... [8|] the 20th Div was nuked and will retire to Hyderabad to recover, the rest are intact enough to just switch to reserve for around a week or so. My forts are at level 1 rn at Karachi, but will hopefully be at level 2 by the time I attack again.

November 2nd

(Me and dean have both been busy with school recently, and will be for the next month so our pace of play is probably gonna slow down for a while. I'll try to keep you guys posted on the progress.)

Dean has been bombing the airfield of Port Moresby with around 80 Heavy bombers for the past few days. Ive been contesting with a Sentai of Ki-45s based at Milne bay, but they have not been very effective. I have another sentai of Nicks in transit to the Rabaul area, and I'm considering shifting another sentai of Tojos as well. Im gonna start building up a rear area airfield probably at Buna and maybe Lae.

A small allied convoy was spotted off the African coast at Dante. I suspect that he is gonna build up the base and use it to base recon planes. A Cruiser squadron is gonna check it out and some H8ks are set to recon the base.

Yesterday a pilot escaped capture and returned after being MIA. idk if he was an exceptional pilot or just average.

I'm a history student so close enough. I have 3 end of semester research papers that I have around 30 days to finish. Ironically I'm taking WW2 Hist this semester, and I chose to focus my research paper on the Solomon islands campaign. [:D] Just sucks that the class is online and completely asynchronous.

Me and dean do not go to the same schools, we met when playing Hoi4 a couple years back.

I think RJ was hinting that the use of "me" is inappropriate. Me is an object to the verb - e.g. "Something happened to me". "I" is an active subject to describe yourself, so "Dean and I..." would be the way to start the sentence.

It matters to us old geezers who can't reinterpret internet English so well. I have stopped reading Deaniks AAR because the spelling and misused words make it really hard to read and understand. It is the writer's job to make the writing a pleasure to read, not the reader's job to figure it out. Your AAR is mostly well written, so occasional misuse of words is not a big issue.

Punctuation is also important.

"Let's eat Grandma!" [X(] is very different from "Let's eat, Grandma!" [:'(] I am sure that Grandma would appreciate that. [:D]

Of course, the proper response to "Let's eat Grandma!" is "Let's finish your Aunt Matilda first!" [;)]

soulsilver -> RE: RA Soulsilver (J)vs Deaniks (A) (11/18/2020 4:51:10 AM)

Hmmm, I've been writing this AAR using more colloquialisms than I would when writing academically, and I guess it shows. I can't say I've paid enough attention to the actual rules of English grammar in the past, and mainly just write based off the intuition of "does this sounds right?" I probably understand the actual rules of french (what I was forced to learn in school since I'm from Canada) better than English if I'm going to be honest with myself.

November 4th Disaster Near Socotra and Allied Carriers spotted in the Arabian Sea.

The cruiser force sent to attack the 6 ships spotted at Socotra found 2 cargo ships unloading in harbour, which they promptly sunk.

xAKL Honolulan, Shell hits 16, and is sunk

The real trouble is that a Allied carrier force was just off Socotra, and was either unspotted by Search planes, which is possible given the bad weather as of late or just showed up. Given my luck as of late I suspect the later option.

A second attack sunk the 2 remaining cruisers and one of the DDs leaving 2 DDs and a TB to attempt to flee tomorrow.

The KB based at Goa will immediately Sortie but its gonna take a few days to get there. If dean chooses to leave, he will be long gone. If I'm lucky he might be greedy and try to finish off the two DDs and allow me to catch him. Air search shows 2 CV 1 CVL and 1 CVE, along with escorts.

It looks like he's preparing to take back Socotra, the Island off the Arabian Coast that I took a couple months back, which is fine. I've already withdrawn everything from the Island to Masirah along the Omani Coast.

I really need to learn my lesson now to stop sending Cruiser TFs on death rides. I'm gonna try and be a lot more careful to not do this is the future, since I'm pulling a dean right now.

soulsilver -> RE: RA Soulsilver (J)vs Deaniks (A) (11/18/2020 7:53:57 AM)

And the carriers are spotted still in their same position during the night phase. I saw this right after clicking off the combat report, and I'm unsure if this is where his TF was before moving.

Another attack on Karachi today, this time the Naval and air bombardment was coordinated with the attack. Fatigue was in the low teens for most units, my forts in the hex were at level 2. despite the increased fire support, casualties were still high. I'm gonna need more troops , and more Arty, as even without forts, I'm not sure that I can ever muster enough AV to take the city. At the very least my Units are gaining a ton of experience during the siege. The two Tank Divisions have around 70 exp now up from their initial 55 at the start.

November 8th

2 BBs were spotted heading west off Sydney, this is the second big convoy of surface ships ive spotted heading west from sydney. The last convoy was also spotted near Perth heading west towards Cape town. It also possible that he is husbanding forces to attack the SRA but, there has been no Naval or sub activity there for 6 months. Given his carriers known location at Cape town it seems likely that dean wants to break the siege of Karachi. The first step would probably be taking back those islands in the Arabian Sea, or possibly a Yolo resupply effort into Bombay or Karachi itself. I'm concerned about my flank at Bombay which I have only lightly guarded by 2 Regiments. He only has around 30k troops at Bombay and forts have been kept in check by constant air bombardment so I doubt the forts are above 6. I feel kind of tempted to move a bunch of troops down here to quickly take Bombay, but I get the feeling it would still take around a month to take. Furthermore any attempt to reinforce and push out of Bombay would have to deal with the Kido Butai anchored at Goa so I don't think it is too big of a concern. talking about the Kido Butai, carrier divisions 1,2,4,5 are all together idled near the cape town exit northwest of India. I get the feeling that Dean will be back soon so I'm hoping to stage and ambush here. Carrier Division 3 is currently at Paramushiro to prevent further resupply attempts of Adak.

Up in the Aleutians Ive started Bombarding even though I know I'm going to take much higher losses to increase the Isolated troops supply consumption. Once the weather clears G4Ms will begin bombing them as well.

November 10th

So recently I've realized that I have not been shipping enough resources to the home Islands. For what ever reason not enough resources are being moved to Fusan to meet the level 8 ports full capacity so I'm gonna have to start seriously shipping from Shanghai and Port Arthur. In RA the Japanese heavy industry is expanded by around 10% so resource consumption is higher and since we are using a version of the mod with Dbabe's input was further reduced. I imagine that these factors played a role in my resources drying up. I also have a large stockpile of half a million resources in Toyohara that needs to be moved, so I'm gonna start shipping resources from Shikuika as well as increased shipping from Toyohara itself.

I have begun to make sure that supply convoys pick up resources on the way back. I started doing this near the beginning of the game but got lazy and stopped. Emergency resources convoys have set off from Singapore, Taiwan, and the Philippines, although these convoy routes will be temporary. I'm also thinking about shipping resources to Hong Kong and letting the over land transport get the resources to Shanghai and Fusan. Thankfully I have not been as neglectful of oil and fuel. I have a direct CS convoy route shipping Oil to Nagasaki and Fuel to Hongkong, with fuel and Oil from Miri going to Singapore before being picked up by large 14-18 knot tankers for transit to Japan/Hongkong. For most of the Game I've been sending the fuel from Balikpapan to Truk, and the fuel at Tarkan to either Davao or Palau. Since fuel usage has been relatively light in this region for a while I've begun shipping most of the oil and fuel to Davao and then directly to Japan. Excess fuel in Java ships to Davao, for pick up by larger faster tankers. Since Burma is pretty safe right now and will be for the foreseeable future I repaired the 10 points of damage the oil took and am shipping the fuel to India to supply fleet Ops and fuel the Industry. Excess Oil is shipped to Singapore.

For the next game, seriously consider expanding the LI at Fusan to increase the resource supply draw there.

soulsilver -> RE: RA Soulsilver (J)vs Deaniks (A) (11/22/2020 12:53:58 AM)

Yeah I think I found the problem, Fusan was bugged out and ships were not leaving the harbour. Idk how long its been like this either. Convoys are starting to deliver from Shanghai, and once more cargo ships arrive from Singapore they will be put to work hauling from Port Arthur.

Dean has unleashed the sub swarm on India. the Kido butai ended up spotting a bunch of subs pouring out of the off map a few days ago, so if dean actually is paying attention and reads his operation log he should see that they are being spotted by carrier planes. If that wasn't enough a sub bumped into one of the carrier TF but only spotted the escorts so he knows I have ships up here and probably can put the pieces together to know that I have carriers waiting over here. The TF will retire to Surat north of Bombay and wait. I the mean time I'm gonna move some more float planes over here to conduct anti sub spotting. Once I have some sallies saved up I'll switch some of the k-48 ASW squadrons I have over to the sally.

In the Solomon Islands area Dean swept an empty base with p-38s and attacked shipping with PBYs, but this time I was ready and shot down around 5 flying boats. This is the first time he has swept with p-38s in this area so I'm gonna need to be on my toes.

the allies do not appear to have launched a supply run but are still sitting their CVEs in port in Kodiak for some reason. Carrier Division 3 and a BB TF are parked near Attu to potentially intercept any attempts to reinforce Adak.

Main news today was a sweep of Milne bay that came in lower than expected. Ive had a bunch of my fighters flying low cap to counter his high altitude fighter sweeps, but his 10k sweeps are still pretty effective. I'm not losing many pilots buts its still annoying to be losing more planes.

In china a Chinese Corps south of Chungking surrenders.... Dean apparently found a way to starve his own troops of supply outside of the city, as he still have 20k supply in Chungking apparently. I guess this makes my job of cleaning up these troops on the roads south of the capital easier, I just wish they would retreat into the city rather than surrender.

Gilberts and Marshals

Tarawa almost has level 5 forts and will keep building till level 6. Mili and Maloelap also have level 4 forts but I'm unsure if I will increase them any further.

I'm gonna be pretty busy for the next 20 days with final papers, so I doubt much will happen for a while. After school is done I'm gonna try and give a comprehensive explanation of the deployment of my fleets, as I haven't been very good about keeping you guys updated on my ship dispositions.

In India I launched a reasonable attack on Karachi today, but it failed to reduce the forts. Either the naval bombardment beforehand did its job, or I got lucky with the dice rolls.

Over in the Solomon's things arnt looking as good, around 90 heavy bombers attacked Port Moresby today and half the planes were on LCAP over Milne bay. Dean wasn't spotting Port Moresby so I guess he just got lucky here, idk. He destroyed around 50 planes on the ground while lossing 3 heavies. I'm gonna fly out the planes that can, and try and evac the rest via small xakLs.
