magic87966 -> Question about Generals and Mobility (8/20/2020 4:35:59 PM)

Generals are rated with Combat, Mobility and Tenacity. I'm trying to understand the impact of the various ratings. Fundamentally, I would think that a defending General with low mobility would stand a better chance of getting fixed in place and destroyed rather than retreating.

On the surface, this seems to make logical sense to me. But I think I'm thinking about it incorrectly as it relates to the game.

The "Retreat Chance" chart in the manual says the difference in the mobility ratings of the attacking and defending Generals impact the retreat chance by 2% per value difference. So it appears that the actual mobility rating is not the key but simply the difference in mobility factors.

If the attacking General has a mobility rating of 5 and the defender is a 9, then (all other factors being equal) there is an 8% LESS chance of the defender retreating. Is this correct? Or is it the exact opposite?
Again, on defense a higher mobility rating would make me think of a greater chance to retreat but I don't think this is so. Comments?

I would be curious too how this stacks. i.e.

Tenacity is confusing.

So is mobility... I notice as I attack and push the opponent my mobility increases, which is supposed to be a greater chance to retreat?

And as I understand it a low tenacity general = a greater chance to give ground.

So wouldn't you want a very high mobility, very low tenacity general if you wanted to give ground without losing units?

Also a very high combat, very low mobility/tenacity general if you wanted to keep ground at all cost?

I am not sure how the opponent's Mobility/Tenacity stacks vs your own Generals at all. If it's a factor beyond your own calculations either?

Page 77 new manual
Combat — Affects how well each general is at inflicting damage on the enemy and reducing damage to their forces

Mobility — Affects the chances of retreating

Tenacity — Affects the intensity of combat and the chance a defender surrenders in low attacks with a less than 34% retreat chance

Tenacity Surrender Chart page 76 new manual

Each stat is compared to the opposing general. 2 generals which are equal in combat and mobility generate no advantage on one another.
2 generals with low tenacity are overly cautious and have less casualties
2 generals with high tenacity are overly aggressive and have HIGHER casualties

In the Pacific all Japanese generals will have a tenacity of 9 or 10 = they don't surrender pretty much and inflict more casualties.

If one General is slightly higher than the other, say by 1 factor, how much does that affect the combat they are involved in? If the attacking General has a 7 combat and the defending General has a 6, does that mean the attacker has a large advantage of inflicting damage or just a small one? It is very difficult to understand and is mostly like guessing that this is the best General I have.

magic87966 -> RE: Question about Generals and Mobility (8/21/2020 4:07:26 PM)

But does a defending General with higher mobility than the offensive General increase or decrease the chances of retreat?

It is a tiny advantage. But think of this advantage like compound interest. It builds up over time.
3% return a year sucks in 1 year but compounded it returns 34% over 10 years.

So the more you attack with the better general the more it compounds.

Correct.

I'm not trying to be stupid here but which is correct? Increase or decrease if the defending General has higher mobility?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Question about Generals and Mobility (8/22/2020 2:23:22 PM)

If a defending general has a higher mobility he has a better chance to resist a retreat. It isn't a lot but it's better.

Say you have a 28% chance as the attack with 2 armor + 1 inf to retreat the opponent
Your general is a 5-5-5 and he has a 5-7-5 maybe he knocks off 2-3% from the total which is 10% less.

Basically you want to use different generals in different situations.

If you want to inflict casualties and grind them down you want high combat and high tenacity
If you want to delay the enemy you want high combat and low tenacity
If you want to force retreats and envelope high mobility and maybe low tenacity to reduce casualties since your goal is envelopment.
If you want to hold a position like Leningrad front high combat, high tenacity

But these are all small factors that take real effect over long periods of combat.
