Podolano -> Assigning Air Group Leaders (8/26/2020 10:32:45 PM)

Hi All,

I’d like to have your valuable input and feedback on the following:

- Upon assigning more effective Air Group Leaders, be it a Fighter, DB, TB or FB squadron, I’ve focused on picking up the leaders based on two criteria: Air skills and Aggression. I’ve not included Inspiration or any other criteria for that.

Is my assumption correct?

Tks in advance,

Felipe

I also include leadership and inspiration. They have to know what to do and have some charisma. At least, that is my opinion.

geofflambert -> RE: Assigning Air Group Leaders (8/26/2020 10:56:01 PM)

For training leadership and inspiration is crucial, but a flying commander who is also skilled in the appropriate areas doesn't hurt. For combat squadrons leadership, air skill and to a lesser degree inspiration are important. Aggression is relevant for TF commanders and submarine skippers. Don't use flying commanders for combat squadrons.

jdsrae -> RE: Assigning Air Group Leaders (8/27/2020 12:20:29 AM)

Air skill, leadership, inspiration ratings all have to be >50 for me.
There aren’t too many IJ air commanders with <60 aggression, so that’s not usually a differentiating factor.
Even if someone has 70+ air skill but 40 something leadership / inspiration I leave them on the bench as unassigned staff officers, not used as commanders.

Been using this for years the colurs only reflect he order of preference. So for CAP Inp, Air, Lead are the recommended requirementd. And before someone asks I got if off the forum years ago but if it's changed I like to know.

Aggression is irrelevant.

Could you have been more right with fewer words? Drop the "is".

RangerJoe -> RE: Assigning Air Group Leaders (8/27/2020 7:55:20 PM)

Aggression will send bomber forces into more heavily defended bases.

Yes. Also, if you want your LBA (especially Netties) to attack CV groups, even when well escorted they will need an HQ and squadron commanders with high aggression. If you want your bombers to avoid flying into heavy CAP unescorted, sometimes even when you order them to do so by mistake, use low aggression commanders.

Stats of the /B /C leaders tend to be better with good (read: high XP)pilots. I plan to keep a few of these around to staff /B /C sub-groups if/when I get to play the game! Embedded pic shows a IJA bomber pilot commander that is generated @ game setup, not stellar but certainly better than some of the crappy leaders staffing the default squadrons:

I do choose more aggressive commanders all other things being equal, but I don't think about it much. Here is an example. I'm looking at a recon squadron that is currently training but I'm looking to replace the commander with a combat commander. The number one thing I look at is Air Skill. Guess what? The guys with the highest Air skill tend to be aggressive. Who'da thunk?

Move the slider down to the bottom and post another screenshot - then I will be able to pick a leader for you ... [sm=innocent0009.gif]

jdsrae -> RE: Assigning Air Group Leaders (8/28/2020 5:31:10 AM)

LTC Ochiai is the only one on that list I wouldn’t pick due to his 46 leadership.
I also like to pick COLs to command Sentai and MAJs to command Independent Chutai, despite the rank probably making no difference.

Podolano -> RE: Assigning Air Group Leaders (8/28/2020 4:14:24 PM)

I’ve applied a few changes based on your suggestions/comments and played a few turns yesterday and could already notice some improvements!

Thank you all for your invaluable feedback!

That bitc... individual ruin one of my favorite movies, Cat Ballou. Lee Marvin was fantastic in that show, but because of her, I can't watch it anymore. Well at least not without my blood pressure pegging out, and in my heath that could be fatal.[:D]

Lee was a veteran of at least two Pacific landings. Saipan and I forget the other.

He served in the 4th Marines Div, and was seriously wounded at Saipan, so the other amphibious landing would probably be Roi-Namur.

Interestingly, I’ve read he had attained the rank of corporal, but had been demoted for « troublemaking ». Those actors...[:D][8|]

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure..

No.[:D]

Sounds like my military 'career'. Never got demoted, but came close too often. Never liked too much discipline. Work better on my own. Not conducive to a military career.

Yeah, I would have loved to wear the uniform (I studied watching JAG), but I’ve always been too prone to question authority.🙄🤣

RangerJoe -> RE: Assigning Air Group Leaders (8/30/2020 7:18:49 PM)

You can question the authority just follow the orders. You can be a smart ass if you do so correctly.
