Taifun -> RE: TAIFUN (Axis) vs Fafnir (Allies) 1939 (9/14/2020 9:16:32 AM)

Many thanks all for following this AAR. [;)] Some final thoughts about our game. As 1942 was about to begin the Axis position in the USSR was not terrible. General von Manstein with his 3 veteran Armies plus artillery and assisted by the Fins, after taking Volkhov and sealing the North front, were intended to reinforce Army Group Center for the final summer offensive against the Soviet capital. With the support of all the Luftwaffe bombers and level 4 panzers the offensive could “maybe” have been successful after a bloody combat… In the South, we intended to hold the ground around the Dnepropetrovsk river bend. The Italian moral was around 70% not bad and the Mediterranean positions seemed solid. The Allies had only 2 ports in Yugoslavia defended by the Canadian Infantry corps and an Egyptian garrison. The West front was a problem, being defended by several Infantry corps and a panzerkorps… but the Allies had no troops to start an invasion before late summer, giving us time to organize the defense. The main problem was our economy. Our income was very low being around 680 MMPs a turn as we lost the Norwegian and Swedish mines. We should have invested more in Industrial tech earlier. The USSR was getting about 880 MMPs a turn (only 3 U-boote left to attack the convoys), the USA 350 MMPs and the UK 380 MPPs. And with the USA entry into the war after Pearl Harbour it will double in no time. Our position will be desperate once 1943 begins.
