gallycadet -> Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/4/2020 2:19:11 AM)

Got into a facebook discussion today, and learned about the canceled Fasthawk and Arsenal BBG programs, which I didn't know were in the database. I'm excited to play with them. What are your other favorite "What if/canceled" programs in the game? I also like the A-12, the navalized F-15, and the Super Tomcat.

One of my favorite things to do is play Cold War scenarios as intended... and then add a wing of EB-52's in the editor and see what kind of mayhem I can cause.

What are your ways of playing the game outside the box, and having a little fun in a serious simulation?

BeirutDude -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/4/2020 10:31:17 AM)

1. Arsenal Ship, especially a stealthy one. USS Ohio Class SSGNs are close and I love to use them in my scenarios. But a surface vessel (ex LPD) fulled with RIM-174s (All blocks) intrigues me.

2. Iowa Class battleship with the aft turret removed for either...
Harriers
VLS

3. Current Izumo / Kaga with F-35s

4. I have just amended the Fiery Reef Scenario to create a task force with the USNS Howard O. Lorenzen (T-AGM-25) and her Cobra King ABM missile radar paired with a DDG heavy in RIM-174 SM-6 Duel-1s to help protect a CVG from the DF-21D ASBMs. Hypothetical as I can't see the USN doing this but...

I'll have to try out your scenario, after I read up on the platforms. Thanks! I always love learning new things about this game.

Hi gallycadet,

You can also find the SR-71B (6 x AIM-120) and SR-71(Bx) (4 x AGM-69A SRAM 200kT nuclear). Both are hypothetical in the database but they were actually considered during the development of the SR-71 in the early 1960s.

Personally,

I ONLY care to use real-life platforms. But if you enjoy making up stuff that will never happen and likely COULD never happen, in the real world, that is what is great about simulations such as this. If you can create it, you can use it and see how it would work!

Coiler12 -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/4/2020 4:59:42 PM)

Either the A-12 Avenger or the Arsenal Ship for me.

Schr75 -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/4/2020 5:10:36 PM)

The F-24 Hellcat with AIM-152 AAAMs is a monster, but I also like the A-12 and of course the SR-72.
Scooting along at mach 5 at 90000 feet has itīs advantages[:D]

BeirutDude -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/5/2020 10:14:42 PM)

I only did #4 in the sceanrio.

Gunner98 -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/5/2020 10:50:59 PM)

I like the stuff that was almost accepted - the nearly there stuff. Like the A-6F, F-14E, F-15N, F-16XL, Yak-141 etc

Fido81 -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/5/2020 11:01:10 PM)

I like the DDG-1000 Zumwalt-class with the weapons it was designed for!

gallycadet -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/6/2020 5:02:44 AM)

The Zumwalt is fun for sure! gunner98, I agree those are also some of the best. The F-16XL is my fave.

Eboreg -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/6/2020 12:37:55 PM)

You know BeirutDude, that 3rd hypothetical platform might not remain hypothetical for long.

As for me, I personally love BBG-1 Kentucky because when it's in a Command: Desert Storm scenario, you know you're in for a wild ride.

I'm also a fan of Arsenal Ships with Fasthawks, damn shame the Fasthawk got cancelled. [:(]

To me, they have a different kind of appeal than the arsenal ships/A-12s. They're more limited and "mundane", which gives them an appeal in their own right (you still have to use the A-6F like another Intruder, the Yak-141 is far better than the little Forger, but is still a limited-capability VTOL plane, etc...)

Agreed but now that Abe has stepped down I wonder if the JMSDF will continue the upgrade.

Rory Noonan -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/6/2020 11:14:37 PM)

SV-22, the ASW proposal for the Osprey is pretty cool. Long range, long loiter time and the ability to hover if required.

gallycadet -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/7/2020 5:41:01 AM)

I haven't played with the SV-22, I'll check it out. Thanks!

KnightHawk75 -> RE: Your favorite "What if" Platforms (9/7/2020 11:30:44 AM)

Probably most commonly b-2's with sensor, comms, loadout, and mount modifications to simulate some b-21 what ifs.
