This map shows the lead elements of the IJA...the tanks are still somewhere...probably plowing thru the WR terrain west of Ankang.

Hope it is not too confusing.[;)]

You still have Singers in July/42? Amazing! The Japanese may have advanced far elsewhere but it is costing them. Well done. [&o]

Thanks, guys.[:)]

Japan congratulated me on stabilizing China and defense of PI.[;)]

I think I could hold China if I could predict where the IJA armored spearhead would appear...but right now there are three - four possibilities. Plus, the the appearance of the Guards & 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions would be clinchers. I do have plans to meet one of them with Valentines from the 254th Armored, but that is probably at least a month away of getting in place (and I am unsure I can upgrade them).

In the PI, I used reserve no pursuit, very little fort building, and a withdraw from Clark back to Bataan (rather than a forced retreat). I believe it all worked out fairly well. More supply would have extended the defense or forced Japan to allocate more there. I did manage to get one full cargo ship in, and many sub loads...I didn't draw any replacement/reinforcements nor did I fly many troops back to Luzon.

Singapore is at 0 supplies...

RangerJoe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (10/18/2021 10:42:23 PM)

Somebody played around in Australia instead of concentrating on Singapore.

I don't think I've ever seen a "bypass Singapore" strategy before. I don't think it's wise, Singapore is just too important and to me is a "must take" before you can move to additional phases

The PI, on the other hand, I can see the merits of a "bypass" strategy. There isn't anything in the PI you need to support an advance. You can neutraize any potential to use PI to attack shipping. And eventually it's going to run out of supplies.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (10/19/2021 3:31:10 PM)

July 14, 1942

Allied subs surge the IJN concentration of shipping at Rangoon, spotted by recon from India, and score several hits and quite a few misses.

Haven't really used our subs aggressively to sink ships, normally they have been used for supplies or recon. That is starting to change a bit.

It pleases me to no end that this AAR got going again. Love reading other players strategies and reads on their opponent and situation, especially when it's a player of Lowpe class. Hat's off! [:)][sm=happy0005.gif]

Quiet turns...

The VP ratio is now 2 to 1, or very, very close to it.

Marching on Broome, headed for Kalgoorlie along the long, long rail track...

moving in northern Burma...

Moving on Baker Island...

Very slow buildup of the Aleutians...

Looking at New Guinea...

Focusing on Marcus to Marianas...

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (10/25/2021 1:37:09 PM)

The struggle in the mountain and wooded rough terrain...movement, counter movement, cut lines of supplies, strain Japan's supply line...

Big test in a week or two is to see if I can get Valentine tanks from Paoshan or Kunming supply depots....

Uncivil Engineer -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (10/31/2021 1:09:42 PM)

You danagled the North Carolina?

Is that a naval term I'm unfamiliar with, or do you have fat fingers like me?

I'm sure that danagled is related to finagled - something underhanded. Maybe Lowpe was typing palm upwards - with his knuckles! [:D]

CaptBeefheart -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (11/1/2021 2:16:15 AM)

I initially read that as "damaged," as in those vessels are picking up system damage, but "dangled" makes a lot more sense.

I'm guessing Gardner has a DL of 0. Your opponents need to read your older AARs to pick up on these tricks.

Cheers,
CB

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (11/1/2021 3:35:21 PM)

I have got two flying boat bases, one north of Nanumea in the lower Gilberts and Gardner. I don't believe Japan knows of either...

Pretty sure NJP has read my other AARs...it is just that with his very rapid push forward he bypassed lots and lots.

PS: It was meant to be dangled...

July 19th, 1942

IJA infantry is pushing hard west from Ankang, thru nasty terrain. We are looking to infiltrate and surround and delay. Supplies are very hard to come by...I think IJA tanks are still one hex west of Ankang.

Wavell's Folly: Valentines, General Lee and Stuarts in China? Possibly.

I was always curious if the admin rating of the leaders had any effect on upgrades in that unit, my play experience tells me that if they do it is very minimal in the range of a few percentage points.

I like General Evans here, he will aim to keep his force alive I hope with his timidity.

Looking at this picture, I have since gone back and set the improvised AFVs to stockpile, and turned on replacements on the off chance they can pick some up prior to reaching Paoshan.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (11/2/2021 2:26:20 PM)

Always a little paranoid of KB raids...there are always flaws in naval search, especially this early.

Sorry for the huge graphic, I have recently upgraded to a half decent monitor and it looks good on my screen!

I find myself in no particular hurry to launch the Baker/Christmas attacks. I have a HQc on the way and would like to land them adjacent to Christmas before attacking there. Also playing around with a very slow and gradual advance bypassing Baker (1AF) and Christmas (2 AF) and simply grabbing dot bases for a while and then pouncing instead on Marcus...not too great of a diversion distance wise...but with probing the entire IJ perimeter I think it might work.

I will keep thinking about it.

You can't withdraw a ship with that much damage. Don't you have to get all damage categories below 50 and total damage points below 100?

The Japanese hold Columbo - were you meaning CT or were you suggesting it be sent for a quick sinking? [:D]
I think Lowpe has time to get her to CT and repair enough of the damage to withdraw her before the due date.

On the leader ratings, everything I recall from hint sheets and old threads says "aggression" for ground leaders has no effect. Aggression does have an effect on the naval side and possibly on the air side. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

For the admin rating, I've split divisions into A, B and C and have clearly seen how leaders with higher admin un-disable devices more quickly, as expected. My guess is admin rating doesn't affect device upgrades.

Good luck with the Ramillies. I'm not sure what else you could do other than a suicide run.

Cheers,
CB

Read these threads:

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4376273&mpage=1&key=recovery

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3604034&mpage=1&key=upgrade

The short answer is no re Admin rating. That rating does have an indirect impact on device recovery which in turn impacts on what gets returned to the pools when upgrading.
