Okay turn is away, and we have three separate solid naval intercepts and one potential naval air attack...but other than that it is all Japan right now![;)]

Do you mean by that, that you have created 3 separate transport TFs each comprised of only merchantmen and you are sending them directly to a Japanese port which displays an enemy TF icon present, or to the ocean hex which displays an enemy TF icon?[:)]

If you keep sending single xAK TFs to enemy ports, the enemy combat TFs may never have sufficient OPS/ammo to leave port after combat. That's one way to keep your valuable combat TFs safe from naval intercepts.[;)]

Alfred

Also a useful tactic offensively as chaff in major fleet engagements - IJN DD's seem to love expending Long Lances on freighters. Much more comforting fighting IJN ships knowing the big damage dealers have been expended.

I would consider it gamey at best.

Even though this is pretty much no rules game, I won't be sending lone xaks to their death to abuse the op point mechanic.

That was a minesweeper at Townsville - look to the right for the location.

In game, yes - but the real-life Dubbo was a Bathhurst-class under construction in Sydney at this point in the war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Dubbo_(J251). Not sure if it was a deliberate decision in DB to move her to Townsville?

Well, she is gone now...and I am starting to have 2nd doubts about trying to save Perth. The better option seems to me to delay and retreat in Australia without losing too many units till some better devices come along. No tanks is a real handicap currently.[:(]

Australia has a couple of Tank Attack units with 37mm guns that will stop these early IJ tanks. Another unit or two from the US, or better still a TD battalion or two would do wonders. Not sure how easily Japan can replace those early tanks though. Certainly having scarce supply in Australia will be one of their problems - that should result in no replacement of devices.

Not finding those, right now only seem to have some 2pounder AT guns, which seem defensively fine, but not usable on offense.

Also, will have some American Howitzers too.

I need to read some of the AARs where Perth was attacked so to avoid common mistakes...

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (10/31/2020 11:55:09 AM)

Perth...

Kalgoorlie can't stock a lot of supplies without wastage currently...

Perth is open to naval bombardments...although there are some CD guns and mines there there.

No full AA anywhere close...2nd KNIL AA is marching south to Alice Springs, so that is probably a month or two away...Yank AA is 2 days from landing on eastern Australia. British AA unit is heading south from India...More Yank AA approaching Auckland and some further away...but close to two weeks for the closest to arrive?

I just see a difficult time keeping supply routes and evacuation routes open...and I can't afford to lose units either destroyed or isolated.

Major forces approaching Kal or already there, 3 Aus Divisions, 3 Yank FA Btln, 1 Aus AT Rgt (36 guns), 5-6 Australian Bde, base forces, HQc x2, Command HQ, several worthless armored units.

In China, IJA has 13 units simply forcing a river crossing at Sian, with no prior air bombardment...there are at least 3 tank regiments here...Sian is forts 3.

A two pounder is a 37mm. British practice was to name the gun by shell weight, while other armies used the bore caliber.
The RN 2-pounder AA would be about 37-40mm caliber. The 17 pounder arty would be about 80mm/3.2" while the 25 pounder would be about 88 mm/3.5 inch.
The naval 12 pounder would be a 3"/75mm weapon.

Barrel length is also important - the German 88mm Flak had a long barrel to reach high altitudes, and that also made it a very effective AT weapon.

Thanks, I didn't know they where identical. [:)]

I was really referencing the lack of any offensive antitank guns...where I could attack and force them out.

Oh boy. I posted this once already in the AAR, and then someone else asked that question and it was answered. When I get a chance I will find the posts...perhaps I will put a link up on the first post too.

Or you could scroll back thru the AAR if you don't want to wait on me.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (11/1/2020 4:52:17 PM)

So the turn is away, and we are looking to savage more IJN shipping...

The Kal buildup is still happening, I am sending the Banshees there in hopes the runways are level 2 by the time they get there.

Found another AA unit just east of Auckland too...we need that AA in Oz.[:)]

Curious to see what new items get produced this turn for Jan 1. Got most of my warships on the upgrades...

Chinese command decided to try and make a temporary stand at Sian...I don't think the Japanese can show up this turn.

I can't find a unit that takes the M3 Lee Tank...any ideas? I sent my turn back, and am simply trying to find them in tracker.

USMC rifle squads are beasts.

Who uses Chinses Recon Squads...guessing some late game troops?

Hurricanes and the B17E...yay. I think I have lost one D -- course I only used them once I think.

The Intel summary page indicates not many points lost for IJ ships - so those important ships likely did not go down. Probably mine hits that did damage - the sunk ships page seems to always include (initially) any ship that had a mine or torp hit without any consideration of ability to survive.

I got at least one carrier and one CS...confirmed from plane losses....also pretty sure about the Takao. Isuzu I doubt, Katroi is confirmed....

It is a US Army device which is also used by reequipped French, Dutch and Canadian units.

Technically, no game AT gun is an offensive weapon. None participate in the bombardment phase.

I took Lowpe's comment to refer to Tank Destroyers - which are really tanks with a specialized gun (that can be used offensively too) rather than a pure anti-tank weapon on tracks.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (11/1/2020 11:19:39 PM)

Sorry for not being precise...I was referring to devices with anti armor (over 30 or so) in units that can deliberate attack.

Perth...forts 2 (71%)

With this invasion...our hand is forced, and we will fight tooth and nail for Perth now.

I suspect a paratroop invasion to cut the rail line...Kalgoorlie is well held, but only a MG section at Cunderdin currently. Only 13 IJAAF planes here so far, but 45 Zeroes have arrived added to the dozen Nells. Their runway is still damaged.
