I think this shows that in a stock game, even with a good Japanese player, an equally competent Allied played can more than hold his own in '41 and '42 and prevent AV. Even after reading the whole thing, I'm not sure what Japan's strategy was. For everything he passed over in the early phase, the forces in Australia don't seem too overwhelming.

I haven't avoided AV yet![;)]

Bleeding Japanese planes still.

Part of it is the fairly constant Japanese shock attacks for no good reason. Better play on Java would also have helped take the mountain base a lot quicker.0

As mentioned on the NJP72, I'm reading both so have no comment other than Thanks!

Very entertaining,

I seem to recall Wargamr getting the Aussie emergency reinforcements, and not seeing an impact from them.

Another sentai of fighters has shown up in eastern Australia...total now over 75.

The Aussie reinforcements turn up mostly in Cape Town and Aden. It takes a while to get them to Oz.

March 24, 1942

Task Force Pillsbury attempts to intercept IJN invasion fleets but gets a small squadron instead, just enough damage is done, to form an escort squadron which then is promptly sunk by Vals. Scratch two destroyers...still these guys have done excellent work over the course of the war.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (5/30/2021 12:29:32 PM)

Over in India, Dacca continues to see a buildup, now 19 enemy units there...our bombers actually sortie and inflict some decent damage on the IJA leading (or flank protection) tank units.

My goal here is to really slow down Japan's advance and get them worried about having AA with advance offensive spearheads and potentially to save Ledo. I am hamstrung a bit by so very few runways able to handle bombers. I also need to be careful, as Japan if stymied on the ground will resort to amphibious operations. There are now 2 IJA divisions on Ceylon and one Regiment.

I have formed the big 5th Chinese Corp, they are at Diamond Harbor and will now move to Calcutta to continue filling out as fast as they can. Currently they are up to 644 AV.[:)] I have flown out over 50% of the 6th Corp with some at Calcutta and Ledo, while the rest at Lashio. I really would like to get them all out too giving the Allies some really nice defensive units.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (5/30/2021 12:35:01 PM)

Liking the Chinese Front...a lot of strongholds have created level 4 fortifications, we are in excellent terrain, and although we will suffer a bit from bombardments, Japan will really need to send a lot of assets here to create anymore forward progress.

A better look at China...

Certainly the opportunity for Japan taking China is not lost, yet, but it will require a radical change in operations. Japan moving off road really benefits China currently. The Japanese bombers have not been used much, but that will change as it will become the only safe area for them to operate in. PDU off of course helps China too.

That is the 1st Burma Division marching to Paoshan...there are I think 3 Indian mountain gun units, 1 cavalry unit in China so far. The 254th Armor is just outside of Lashio. The mountain gun units have seen some good combat and the cavlary unit fought once and is now digging in and recovering. They are primarily a fire brigade.

Japan's assault on China frustrated at every turn where I chose to fight: the move on the Ankang road, the thrust into the mountains above Sian, east from Ichang to Changteh, on the road towards Tuyun, the western approach from Lashio, and now the road to Chikiang.

The war in China has played out pretty much as I planned, doing a bit better than I planned actually.[;)]

One tactic, I am developing is the use of Chinese artillery in a reserve, no pursuit mode on the frontlines where Japan has concentrated their Artillery. Not sure how this will work out, but I want to keep the Chinese artillery as an anti tank threat, and not lose them in artillery duels where I am outgunned by Japan. Also conserves a bit of supplies.[;)]

The Laida, which brought emergency supplies to Luzon, got sunk on her return trip, but her sacrifice allowed the AVD Childs to avoid combat for the day...perhaps she will escape Luzon?

Of the three merchants sent to Luzon with emergency supplies, one was sunk by an Iboat, another got cold feet and diverted to Aleutians, but the Laida made the run...kudos to her!

Did you march those Indian Mountain Gun units to China or fly them in? Just wondering about the feasibility of the latter.

BTW, Changteh is West of Ichang, if that comment was about the Japanese unit currently stuck in Changteh having come from Ichang?

yeah, meant west from Ichang to Changteh.[8|]

Flew in the Indian gun units, and forgot to mention a British AT gun unit also flown in sans motorized support and they saw combat versus the IJA tank spearhead too![:)]

I rescued this unit from Ceylon, after the invasion happened. Incredibly strong AA unit...Allied AA is a competitive advantage over Japan. It allows so much flexibility both offensively and defensively!

Apparently the P-38Es need some better pilots and leaders to make use of the new plane. Players who threw it straight into battle found it "underwhelming".

I know I have savaged the P38Es with A6M2s in the past, also caught the P38 fleet on the ground on islands and destroyed them via naval bombardments in the past too.

I am not happy with my pilot training program, this game I haven't done as many leadership changes as I would like. But I am getting there.[:)]

PDU off presents a bit of leeway timing wise.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (5/30/2021 2:41:04 PM)

I am not sure I will ever do this, but rather than throw away the Dutch bombers in fruitless low level attacks on IJN invasion fleets, I disbanded them. Part of the reason why I did this is because of the very early Java invasions by Japan not allowing any time to train the pilots.

If I ever retake Soerabaja, I will be able to use these guys in an ASW role, milk run bombing, or night time bombing role. Not great, but not bad either. Pools are ok.

British and Indian reinforcements flowing into India.

The 70th Div is crack, 80 exp.

Also India is getting the 40th American Division, elements arriving in Bombay in the next few days, remainder still being bought out at Mombasa.

The final regiment in the 2nd Marines arrives in San Diego in 3 days and will be targeted to India too.

Ahem. [&:]

The Avenger is a single engine, carrier capable, US Naval Torpedo bomber that was also used by some of the US Naval Infantry air infantry air units plus sent out as Lend Lease aid to many countries.[:D]

The B26B is a twin engine land based bomber known as the Marauder. Four Marauders did carry torpedoes and use them at Midway but not one of them stuck a target and exploded. Since the B25 had a slightly longer range, the B26 was then used in the ETO being replaced by the B25 among other bombers.[:D]

[sm=00000436.gif]

To help increase OPs losses, a small LRCAP over the enemy bases can help with that. [sm=00000028.gif]

There is an alternate "national" base for each nationality to allow their reinforcements and arrivals to show up somewhere. If they do show up at Aden, that is a perfect place to train them to the limits, and in multi skills too.

You could always use PP to buy out a dot base for the Dutch Patrol aircraft - or are they all destroyed already? Should be able to buy the air units back as well when PP become more plentiful.
