Heeward -> OT Hell to Pay by D.M. Giangreco 2nd Edition (10/9/2020 10:24:34 PM)

Has anyone read the second edition of D. M. Giangreco's
Hell to Pay on the end of the war with Japan?

Is it worth buying?
I understand the 2nd edition has been significantly enlarged.

I would like to hear your thoughts vs. the following books that I have read:
Max Hastings Retribution the Battle for Japan 1444-1945
Richard Frank Downfall the End of the Imperial Japanese Empire
John Skates The Invasion of Japan - Alternative to the Bomb

Just to toss it in and not really relevant:
Fiction
Alfred Coppel - The Burning Mountain a Novel of the Invasion of Japan

1444, those were the days. The 150th anniversary of the death of Kublai Khan.

I liked Hastings' book, very easy to read and interesting, while he is not a historian, he is pretty good writer.

I recently re-read the book after many years and loved it again - though I don't think it was second edition...
