Hoggorm,

Had you assigned the armoured brigade to 3rd US Armored Division the previous turn? You need to have it assigned to a division-signed ground unit the turn before. Then in the next turn you can click on the ground unit, click on one of the three elements of the attached support unit, and then click Convert, and it will appear on-map, and will be able to move a single hex, no matter the terrain.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that before.

Cary

Hoggorm -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/17/2020 10:04:39 PM)

Yes, this brigade had been with the 3rd for several turns. I moved the 3rd as far forward as it could go between two german divisions, then clicked the brigade and Yes one or two times. Unfortunately I did not check the HQ, location but it did for sure not appear at the 3rd location. Since what I intended did not appear to work, I reloaded the quicksave and did something else as this was just a test.

This is from the manual regarding Multi-role units. But this might be a different thing?

«When it converts to a combat unit, it will be placed in the hex with the HQ unit and will have one movement point remaining»

What is the attached brigade?

And can you post a screenshot of the 3rd US AD's detail screen showing the attached brigade, like this?

You should see something like this when you click on one of the three elements of the attached brigade:

Unable to recombine sub-units

Hoggorm -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/18/2020 6:39:25 AM)

1/113th removed from 3rd AD

I checked the HQ location and it is not there either. It seems to have been returned to the HQ, but not as a combat unit.

Denniss -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/18/2020 10:41:40 AM)

smells a bit like a bug, without all 3 partial units attached to the same parent unit a convert option should not be presented to the player

cfulbright -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/18/2020 3:02:36 PM)

The bad news is that won't work, but the good news is that at least I can successfully diagnose the problem.

In order for you to convert a multi-purpose unit from support to on-map, 1) it must be a regiment or brigade-sized unit; and 2) all three battalions of that unit must be assigned together to the same division (or HQ).

The problem here is that you only have one of the three battalions of 113th US Cavalry Group assigned to 3rd US AD.

Cary

Hoggorm -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/18/2020 8:22:45 PM)

Thank you both.

I will try attaching all three battalions next time!

Hoggorm -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/28/2020 10:02:32 AM)

First I wanted to let you know that I was able to convert three battalions to a division and move it one more hex :) Thank you

Now I bombed Hamburg the other day and see the numbers in the recon differs:

These two screenshots are taken in the same turn. If I read the numbers correct I added 31% damage to the manpower in Hamburg, however, when looking at the factory recon I see only 10% damage. 31% of 34 (factory size) is about 10,5. But if this is the correct way of calculating the damage, 10% should only be 10? (Without the %?) Meaning I did 31% damage and 10 out of the 34 manpower factory is damaged, not 10% of it?

What do you think?

I try again:

GloriousRuse -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/29/2020 9:30:00 PM)

The fog of war lies to you. Deliberately. Trust your recon more than the roll up, but really don't trust anything too much.

Hoggorm -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (11/30/2020 9:37:14 PM)

I see what you mean. I would just imagine that the roll up and recon would coinside more, as best assesment of damage done should be the goal.
But I guess I could also see it like the round up is what damage the bomber aircrews think they did, while the recon is the damage the recon planes that flew the next day saw?

GloriousRuse -> RE: D-Day start campaign issues (12/1/2020 1:18:36 AM)

It is one of those quirks - the roll up draws from/reports the "day of" BDA for a given strike. When your planes go over three days later, the program has moved on...but you can still see the real result. It would certainly be better if you got the most accurate assessment, but cest la vie.

And I like it :) I'm sure recon and intel could be very difficult to get accurate!
